Here are the ten constituencies that were the most successful constituencies (as ranked by vote share) for female candidates at the 2024 General Election. Women won more votes than men in just five of the forty three constituencies being contested at this election. Nationally, female candidates won 31.7% of the overall first preference votes cast at this election. It’s obviously far from a 50-50 split in terms of a gender voting breakdown, but it is a vast improvement on how things stood at the 2011 General Election, where women accounted for only 15.2% of the candidates. The level of change over the past decade and a half has been driven by the introduction of a gender quota, in the wake of that 2011 election contest, with political parties standing to lose half of their state funding if they fail to achieve the gender quota target (and political parties in the Republic of Ireland are very much reliant on this state funding(. The quota was initially set at 30% (as used at the 2016 and 2020 elections), but the legislation made provisions for this to increase to 40% within seven years of the first general election at which the quota was used (i.e., from 2023 onwards) and the 40% gender quota target was in place for the first time at the 2024 General Election.
The quota only applies to general (Dáil) election contests, but it does have a knock on effect in terms of increasing female candidate levels at local election contests, as success at local elections is often a springboard to success at subsequent general election contests. Hence, it makes sense for political parties who might be potentially looking to run new/first-time female general election candidates to encourage these potential new candidates to run in local elections (City and County Council elections) beforehand.
Over the past fifteen years there has been an overall increase in female candidate levels (up from 15.2% in 2011 to 35.8% in 2024 – the reason why this percentage was not at least 40% can be put down to the fact that the quota obviously does not apply to non-party candidates), as well as the number of votes won by women (up from 350,044 (15.8%) in 2011 to 697,569 (31.7%) in 2024). The level of increase in female representation levels has not been as dramatic (up from 15.2% of all TDs in 2011 to 25.3% of all TDs in 2024), although the 2024 election did see a record number (44) of women being elected as TDs (members of the Irish parliament). Female candidates were the runners up in twenty of the forty three constituencies at the 2024 election.
The quota is applied nationally and this can lead to some interesting geographical variations in terms of female candidate, vote and representation levels. Women, on average, are usually more likely to be selected to run as candidates in the more urban constituencies (and especially in Dublin) and are more likely to win more votes (and to win Dáil seats) in the more urban areas. Female candidates, as the table above shows, did fare well in some, more rural, constituencies, such as Offaly, Carlow-Kilkenny, Cavan-Monaghan and Clare, at the 2024 election. They fared less well, as the table below shows, in other rural constituencies, such as Donegal, Tipperary North, Tipperary South and Galway East, although there were some urban constituencies (Dublin North-West and the two “Cork City constituencies”) in which female candidates also won low vote shares.

Adrian Kavanagh, First posted: 12th December 2024 – Latest update: Monday 15th September 2025
The 2024 Local Elections resulted in the election of 949 City and County Councillors. Since that election took place on 7th June 2024, I have estimated that at least 76 of the successful candidates in these elections (8.01% of the total number) have either stood down, been “promoted”, or have sadly passed away.
Moreover, at least three of the new Councillors co-opted to replace these Councillors have themselves resigned from their new role/were promoted to national politics, bringing the total number of City/County Councillors who have either stood down, been “promoted”, or have sadly passed away, up to 79 (8.32% of the total number).
57 of the former Councillors in this group are male (72.2%) and 22 are female (27.8%).
44 (56.4%) of the co-options/new Councillors are male, while 34 are female (43.6%). 14 of the co-options (17.9%) have involved family members of the Councillors who are being replaced.
This means that the total number of female City and County Councillors has increased relative to the number of female candidates elected at the June 2024 elections; initially going from 247 (26.03% of total number of Councillors elected at the 2024 Local Elections) to 255 (26.93% of the total number of City/County Councillors, following the co-options made immediately after the general election). Following the election/nomination of six female Councillors to Seanad Éireann and subsequent co-options to fill vacancies caused by Seanad elections/nominations, the number currently stands at 259 (27.29% of the total number of City/County Councillors, at this point).
In the year immediately following the 2024 County and City Council elections, most of the people in this group of former Councillors would have been people who were “promoted” to take up positions in Dáil or Seanad Éireann. In all, 71 of the former Councillors (91.0% of the former Councillors grouping) fall into this group of Councillors who were subsequently “promoted” to national office – 53 (including one co-opted Councillor) were elected to Dáil Éireann and 18 were elected, or nominated, to Seanad Éireann. So, former County and City Councillors, who were elected in June 2024, currently account for 30.5% of all the seats in Dáil Éireann and 30.0% of all the seats in Seanad Éireann.

In addition to the series of co-options, as outlined/discussed above, there has also been some changes in political party/grouping affiliations involving Councillors who were elected in June 2024. I estimate that, at present, at least 11 Councillors (1.16% of the total) would fall into this category (7 male – 1.00% of the male councillors elected in June 2024, 4 female – 1.77% of the female councillors elected in June 2024).
One of the main impacts of these changes of Councillor political affiliations has been to change the number of City or County Council members associated with different political parties or groupings. As of now, I estimate that the number of City or County Council seats held by different political parties or groupings stands are as follows: Fianna Fáil 246, Fine Gael 246, Independents/Non Party 195, Sinn Féin 99, Labour Party 56, Social Democrats 33, Green Party 23, Independent Ireland 22, Solidarity-People Before Profit 12 (People Before Profit 9, Solidarity 3), Aontú 8, 100% Redress Party 4, Right to Change 1, Independents 4 Change 1, National Party 1, Kerry Independent Alliance 1.
Adrian Kavanagh, 26th November 2024
What are the most “competitive” constituencies at General Election 2024? There are different ways of thinking about this, but most of these are largely opinion-based and not quantifiable. In this article, I have tried to devise a more “objective” way of determining the relative competitiveness levels of different constituencies and ultimately a constituency’s overall ranking is simply based on how “the numbers fall” and not my own opinion.
In an effort to be as objective as possible here and to see where constituencies fall once the numbers are added up, I have devised a measure that is based on the level of electoral experience that a range of candidates have in a constituency, while relating this back to the number of seats in that constituency. A constituency’s ranking is based, in part, on the number of incumbents/Dáil deputies that are contesting the general election in that constituency, but it is also based on the number of Senators and County/City Councillors that are contesting that constituency also, but with a much greater weighting being given to the number of Dail deputies relative to these. The competitiveness score also takes account of candidates who do not currently hold electoral office, but did hold electoral office in the past, although the weighting given to such candidates is not as high as it would be for those who do currently hold electoral office. Finally, the score also factors in the number of former Dail deputies that might be contesting that constituency. The Kavanagh Constituency Competitiveness Score (KCC Score), hence, is largely shaped by the degree of experience that candidates have in terms of winning past elections, but also the experiences they have gained from their positions as current/past public representatives.
Why focus on this? Well, past experience shows that incumbents do have a significant advantage when it comes to contesting elections. While some incumbents will always lose at an election, they, on average, have a better chance of winning a seat than other candidates do. Over three quarter of the Dáil deputies (75.4%) who contested the 2020 General Election won seats, as opposed to 37.5% of Senator candidates and 24.4% of County/City Councillor candidates. 31.8% of former Dáil deputy candidates successfully navigated a return to the Dáil, as well as a very high percentage of former County/City Councillors (62.5%, which did reflect the impact of the Sinn Féin surge in that election. By contrast, only five of the successful candidates (and just 1.5% of the total number of candidates in this group) had not previously held electoral office (and two of these had contested previous Dáil elections and another one had contested the 2019 County Council elections). So, it is obvious that candidates have a much better chance of success if they have previously successfully contested an election campaign and are holding, or have held, electoral office.

The measure is not as nuanced as it might be if I had a bit more time to work on this (hey, I’ve a stack of marking the size of a pile of non-transferable votes waiting for me on my desk), but there is some degree (!) of science behind the KCC score measure and it does hopefully pinpoint constituencies that are especially competitive due to the high number of experienced politicians contesting these (for instance, Wicklow, in which five incumbents are contesting four seats, in addition to other candidates) and those constituencies in which “opportunity spaces” might open up for new candidates, in part because there are few (or none, in the case of Wicklow-Wexford) incumbents contesting these.
| Rank | Constituency | KCC Score |

The ranking suggests that Kildare South will be the most competitive constituency for the upcoming general election. The effective seat reduction, due to the automatic re-election of the Ceann Comhairle, does play a role here, but the constituency is also being contested by all three of the other incumbents, two Senators (one of whom is a former Dail deputy) and three County Councillors. The next highest ranked constituency is probably no surprise here given that the boundary changes, arising from the 2023 Electoral Commission report, have left five sitting Dáil deputies contesting a constituency which now has only four seats, with four County Councillors, one of whom is a former Dáil deputy, also contesting the Wicklow constituency. Sligo-Leitrim edges onto the KCC score podium, just narrowly ahead of Dublin South-Central and Limerick City. Even though one of the current Sligo-Leitrim Dáil deputies will not be contesting the upcoming election, the other three incumbents are running, as well as a large number (7) of County Councillors and one former Dáil deputy and also a former MEP. There is also a relatively high number of City Councillors (6) contesting Dublin South-Central, which would be the most competitive constituency in Dublin based on the KCC score metric, in addition to three of the constituency’s four outgoing Dail deputies and two Senators. With all four incumbents contesting Limerick City, in addition to two Senators and four City/County Councillors, again it is not surprising why this constituency ranks highly in terms of the KCC score.
At the other end of the scale, the constituency with the lowest KCC score (by some distance) is the new Wicklow-Wexford constituency. Again, this is perhaps not a major surprise. The boundary changes in the 2023 Electoral Commission report left all the outgoing Dáil deputies in the old Wicklow and Wexford five-seaters in the territories of the new Wicklow and Wexford four-seat constituencies, and Wicklow-Wexford will be the only constituency at the 2024 General Election that will not be contested by at least one incumbent. This effectively leaves Senator Malcolm Byrne (who briefly held a Dail seat between the 2019 Wexford Dáil by-election and the 2020 General Election) as the most senior politician in this contest, with it being also contested by two County Councillors. The Laois and Galway East constituencies are the next lowest in the competitiveness ranking based on the KCC scores. Laois will be contested by two incumbents (the other Laois-based incumbent is retiring) and two County Councillors. Galway East is also being contested by two incumbents (the other Galway East incumbent is retiring) and four County Councillors, but it has gained an extra seat for this election, which does open up more of an opportunity space for prospective new candidates.

In a similar vein to earlier posts relating to the 2020 General Election, 2016 General Election and 2011 General Election candidates, this page seeks to list the names, and party affiliations, of all the candidates for the 2024/2025 General Election whose ages fall in the 21-35 years age category. (Candidates whose ages fall in the 18-30 years age category will be denoted by a * – all the other candidates listed here fall into the 31-35 year age category, apart from those cases where it is not clear whether the candidates falls into the 21-30 or 31-35 age categories.)
Please note that this is/will probably be an incomplete list due to difficulties in getting age-related information. Given the difficulties involved in getting age details for some candidates, the likelihood is that I will miss out on some names that should be included here, but I will do my best to ensure this list is as accurate as possible.
If you note any glaring absences (and especially if you are one of the candidates that should be listed below, or else are incorrectly listed below), then please feel free to comment below, or to Tweet me at @AdrianKavanagh or email me at adrian.p.kavanagh@mu.ie instead.
From the get-go, this list does/will not include candidates who might run or who are highly likely to run, but this list just includes party candidates who had been officially selected to run at conventions or independent candidates who have publicly declared their intention to contest the upcoming general election. I will also try not to add candidates onto this list until I am (pretty) sure that their age details are correct.
At present (Updated: 14th November 2024), I can currently account for fifty four candidates in the 21-35 age category (8.9% of the total number of general election candidates listed so far). Twenty one (40.7%) of the candidates in this group are female and thirty three (59.3%) of the candidates in this group are male. Seventeen of these candidates are in the 21-30 age category (2.8% of the total number of candidates).
A slightly higher proportion of all female candidates (9.4%) currently fall into the 21-35 age category than the proportion/percentage of all male candidates (8.6%) that do.
Political parties, to date, have selected 49 candidates (10.9% of the total number of political party candidates selected to date), who are in the 21-35 year-old age category.

Adrian Kavanagh,17th July 2024 – latest update: 22nd October 2024
Following on similar posts that were completed ahead of the 2011 General Election, the 2016 General Election and the 2020 General Election, this post will list all of the Dail deputies who have retired/stepped down during the lifetime of the current Dail or who have announced that they will not be contesting the next general election. This list will not include any outgoing Dail deputies, who did contest their party’s selection convention but failed to win a nomination.
Thirty of the TDs who were elected in 2020 will be retiring at the next election/not contesting the next election, amounting to 18.7% of the Dáil deputies who held seats after the 2020 Dail contest.
This number does not include the four TDs who relinquished their Dáil seats after winning seats at the 2024 European Parliament elections – Aodhán Ó Ríordáin (Labour, Dublin Bay North), Barry Cowen (Fianna Fáil, Laois-Offaly), Michael McNamara (Independent, Clare) and Kathleen Funchion (Sinn Féin, Carlow-Kilkenny) – or Michael McGrath (Fianna Fáil, Cork South-Central), who was appointed as the new EU Commissioner for the Republic of Ireland. The total number would increase to thirty five (21.9% of the total number elected in 2020) if this group of new MEPs were also included) and to thirty six (22.5%) of the total number elected in 2020) if Eoghan Murphy (Fine Gael, Dublin Bay South), who retired during the lifetime of the 32nd Dáil, was also included.
Twenty nine of the TDs in this group (so far) are male (79.4%), while seven are female (19.4%). This means that 23.6% of the male TDs, who were elected in February 2020, will be stepping down at the next general election, as against 18.9% of the female TDs, who were elected in February 2020.
176 of the TDs who will be stepping down at the general election are Fine Gael TDs, 3 are Fianna Fáil TDs, 2 are Labour Party TDs, 2 are Social Democrat TDs, 2 are Independent/Non-Party TD, 1 is a Sinn Féin TD, 1 is a Green Party TD, and 1 is a PBP-Solidarity TD.
If we consider all the TDs who were elected in February 2020 and will not be contesting the next general election (including Eoghan Murphy and the former Deputies who are now based in Europe), then we can see that 18 of the TDs who were elected for Fine Gael in February 2020 (51.4% of the total) will not be contesting the next general election, as well as 6 of the TDs who were elected for Fianna Fáil in February 2020, including Marc McSharry, (18.4% of the total), 3 of the TDs who were elected as Non Party candidates in February 2020, not including Marc McSharry (15.0% of the total), 3 of the TDs who were elected for Labour in February 2020 (50.0% of the total – Ivana Bacik won a seat a year later), 2 of the TDs who were elected for the Social Democrats in February 2020 (33.3% of the total), 2 of the TDs who were elected for Sinn Féin in February 2020 (5.4% of the total), 1 of the TDs who were elected for People Before Profit-Solidarity in February 2020 (20.0% of the total), and 1 of the TDs who were elected for the Green Party in February 2020 (8.3% of the total).
So far, the level of TDs retiring/stepping down at the coming general election is not on a par with the level for the 2011 General Elections, as discussed in greater detail here, but exceeds the level of retirements ahead of the 2016 and 2020 elections. 38 of the TDs who were elected in 2007 retired during the lifetime of the 30th Dail or retired at the 2011 contest, amounting to 22.9% of the TDs elected at the 2007 election. 6 of the retiring TDs in 2011 were female (15.8% of the total number of retiring TDs and 27.3% of the females elected at the 2007 contest) and 32 were male (22.2% of males elected at 2007 election). 21 of the TDs who were elected in 2011 (including the Dublin West by-election) retired/resigned during the lifetime of the 31st Dail or else retired/decided not to contest the 2016 General Election, amounting to 12.7% of the Dail deputies who held seats after the 2011 Dail contests. Nineteen of the TDs in this group were male and two were female. 19 of the TDs who were elected in 2016 retired/resigned during the lifetime of the 31st Dail or else retired/decided not to contest the 2020 General Election, amounting to 12.0% of the Dail deputies who held seats after the 2016 Dáil contest. Seventeen of the TDs in this group were male and two were female.

This post will be updated if, and when, more TDs announce that they have decided not to contest the next general election.
Adrian Kavanagh, First Posted – 10th July 2024, Most Recent Update – Tuesday 26th November 2024
We are now in the run in to the next general election, which in theory could have taken place at any stage up to March 2025, but now looks likely to take place in November 2024 or early December 2024. This post will track all candidate selections or candidate declarations, with respect to the next general election, as and when these happen (and, more importantly, as soon as I become aware of them!). The rule of thumb here is that I will add party candidates in most cases only after they have been officially selected to run for the party at a selection convention or by some other means of candidate selection. In the case of non-party candidates, I will add these to the list as soon as a non-party candidate has declared their intention to contest the upcoming general election (and I become aware of this).
I try my best to find information about candidate selection conventions at the local level, but in some cases this information is hard to find and occasionally it can be some time after a convention takes place before I find this information and hence am in a position to update this page accordingly. In some cases, a candidate may have withdrawn some time before I am aware of this and hence remain on this page after they should have been excluded. This post also takes account of the fact that there will be changes to Dáil constituencies at the upcoming general election.

***********************************************************************************
I currently estimate that there are 687 officially selected, or declared, general election candidates so far, based on the information that I’ve managed to attain.
246 of these candidates are women (35.8%) and 441 of these candidates are men (64.2%).

125 of the selected/declared candidates, as of now, are Dáil Deputies/TDs (18.2% – 78.1% of the current number of TDs), while 29 are Senators (4.2% – 48.3% of all Senators) and 177 are County or City Councillors (25.8% – 18.7% of all Councillors). At least 31 of the other candidates, who do not currently hold electoral office are former Dáil Deputies/TDs, or former Senators or former MEPs or former County/City Councillors or Town Commissioners (4.5%). In all, 20 former Dáil Deputies/TDs (2.9%), including those who are currently Senators or County/City Councillors, are currently included on this general election candidates list.
Adrian Kavanagh, 4th June 2024
This post will attempt to list all of the “New Irish”, or Non-Irish/UK national, candidates who have been officially selected to contest the local elections on 7 June (2024), or else have declared their intentions to contest these elections as independent candidates. For the purposes of this post, the definition of “New Irish” includes people who were born outside Ireland and who were not Irish (or UK) citizens before moving to the Republic Ireland. This post will include candidates who subsequently gained Irish citizenship on moving to, or after moving to, the Republic of Ireland, as is the case for a number of the candidates listed here.
At present (as of 5th June 2024) I can account for eighty eight candidates in this group (4.1% of the total number of selected/declared local election candidates), including forty seven female candidates (53.4%) and forty one males (46.6%) candidates; this amounts to 6.9% of all female local election candidates and 2.8% of all male local election candidates. (There are probably another five or six candidates who I suspect could be included here, but I haven’t been able to attain sufficient biographical details on these candidates to be able definitively include them.)
In terms of political parties/groupings, out of the candidates listed below:
Ten members of this group are currently sitting County Councillors or City Councillors, while one other member (Carol Okeke) spent the final months of the outgoing Council’s term of office as a temporary replacement for a Councillor from her political party.
Non-Irish nationals currently account for 12.3% of the Irish population based on the most recent Census of 2016, with this percentage falling to 10.7% when UK nationals are taken out of this group. If the proportion of successful non-Irish/UK nationals local election candidates at at the June 7th local elections was similar to this level (i.e. 10.7%), there would be 102 “New Irish” Councillors (based on a total number of 949 City and County Council members).
At the 2019 City and County Council elections, I estimate that 53 New Irish candidates contested these elections, with seven running for the Green Party, six running for Fine Gael, five running for Fianna Fáil, four running for Labour, three running for People Before Profit, two running for the Social Democrats and one running for Renua, while the other twenty five candidates contested the elections as independent candidates. Eight of these fifty three candidates were successful (accounting for 0.8% of all successful candidates) – Sophie Nicoullaud for the Green Party in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh, Kazi Ahmed for Fine Gael in Glencullen-Sandyford, Punam Rane for Fine Gael in Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart, Madeleine Johansson for People Before Profit in Palmerstown-Fonthill, Baby Pereppadan for Fine Gael in Tallaght South, Elena Secas for Labour in Limerick City East, Abul Kalam Azad Talukder for Fianna Fáil in Limerick City West, and Yemi Adenuga for Fine Gael in Navan. At the 2014 City and County Council elections, I estimate that 31 New Irish candidates contested these elections, with two running for Fine Gael, two running for Labour, one running for Sinn Féin, three running for the Green Party and two running for the People Before Profit Alliance, while the other twenty one candidates contested the elections as independent candidates. Two of these thirty one candidates were successful – Elena Secas for Labour in Limerick City East and Edmond Lukusa for Sinn Féin in Mulhuddart. At the 2009 City and County Council elections, I estimate that 19 New Irish candidates contested these elections, with three running for Fianna Fail, two running for Fine Gael, one running for Labour and three running for the Green Party, while the other ten contested the elections as independent candidates. One of these nineteen candidates was successful – Rotimi Adebari in Portlaoise, who had previously won a Town Council in 2004.
The list of “New Irish” candidates for the 2024 City and County Council elections is presented below. This list will be updated, as and when new candidate information is received by me.

I do my best to ensure that the candidate lists on this website are fully accurate, but there can be errors and omissions (especially in the case of local election candidates, given the large number of people involved – usually over two thousand – and the difficulty in attaining information for some areas/parties).
If there are any candidates who should be included on this list (or are included here, but should not be) or if any other errors in relation to this list are noted, please bring these to my attention by emailing me at adrian.p.kavanagh@mu.ie.

To make it easier for readers to access all the pages relating to candidate selections for the (upcoming) 2024 City and County Council elections quickly, I will list all the relevant pages in this posts. As of now, nominations have not been finalised, so up to the close of nominations on 18 May (or some days after that) the details on the pages, as listed here, may still be changed.
NB: If you do use this website/any of these pages to gain information for your work (e.g. media reports/newspaper articles, academic research… etc.) please do make sure to cite/reference this site, as the information gathered on these page has taken a lot of time to do (over thirteen months work) on my part.

Adrian Kavanagh, 3rd April 2024
In a similar vein to earlier posts relating to the younger 2011 General Election candidates, 2014 Local Election candidates, 2016 General Election candidates, 2019 Local Election candidates and 2020 General Election candidates, this page seeks to list the names, and party affiliations, of all the 2024 County Council and City Council election candidates whose ages will still fall in the 18-35 years age category at the time that the 2024 elections take place (7th June 2024).
Candidates whose ages fall in the 18-29 years category will be denoted by a * beside their names.
Please note that this is likely to prove to be an incomplete list of the names of the younger local election candidates, mainly due to the difficulties faced in terms of accessing accurate age information for candidates in a large number of cases. Given the large number of candidates involved at local elections (usually around two thousand) and the difficulties involved in getting age details for some candidates, the likelihood is that I will miss out on some names that should be included here but I will do my best to ensure this list is as accurate as possible.
If you are one of the candidates that should be listed below, or are incorrectly listed below), then please contact me and I will update/amend this list as soon as I can. Please Tweet me at @adriankavanagh or email me at adrian.p.kavanagh@mu.ie.
But I can’t add names unless (i) candidates have already been selected, or declared and (ii) there’s certainty about the candidate age details (I won’t add someone because some other person is “pretty sure they’re 35″…in a lot of cases, they’re not!)
At present (24th September 2024), I can currently account for at least two hundred and twenty two candidates in the 18-35 age category (10.2% of the total number of local election candidates selected/declared to date that I am aware of) – one hundred and fifty two (68.5%) of the candidates in this group are male while seventy (31.5%) of the candidates in this group are female. At least ninety eight of these candidates are in the 18-29 (4.5% of the total number of local election candidates) age category.
In terms of political parties/groupings, out of the candidates listed below:
As of now, based on the younger candidates that I have listed so far, there seems to be a higher percentage of younger candidates in the more urban constituencies (12.0%) as opposed to the more rural constituencies (8.8%), with an especially high percentage in the Dublin region (14.5%)
The list of candidates in the younger age category (aged 18-35) accounted for to date, by electoral area, includes the following:

These details will still be constantly updated, as and when I come across details of younger candidates, who are to contest the June 7th elections but who are not currently on the list above.
Adrian Kavanagh, First posted 22nd March 2024, with updates as new candidate nominations announced, or when I come across these details – latest update – 21st May 2024.
Any links in this post are to online announcements of candidate selections – there will be no specific links to candidate webpages.
The groups/parties listed here are smaller parties that won very few, or no, seats at the 2019 Local Election and who had – at least by the middle of March 2024– selected only a relatively small number of Local Elections 2024 candidates. As such – and mainly due to the time pressures being experienced by the owner/creator of this website – candidate selections for all of these parties will be logged in this “all in” post.
In all, across the different parties, there are one hundred and ninety one candidates for the smaller/new political parties, which will be contesting the 2024 Local Elections, listed here – forty one (21.5%) are women and one hundred and fifty (78.5%) are men.
The candidates listed as Independent Ireland candidates currently account for sixty candidates (eight are female – 13.3%) and this list of candidates includes twelve incumbents (20.0% of the total) and three other candidates who are former County Councillors (5.0%). Two candidates (Paul Hogan and Philip Sutcliffe) are contesting two electoral areas.
The candidates listed as 100% Redress Party candidates currently account for six candidates (one female – 16.7%)
The candidates listed as Workers Party candidates currently account for three candidates (all male)
The candidates listed as Workers and Unemployed Action candidates currently account for two candidates (one female – 50.0%) and this list of candidates includes one incumbent (50.0% of the total)
