Video marketing isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s a must-have. But for small businesses with limited budgets, competing with the big brands and their flashy, high-budget productions can feel like a daunting challenge.
The good news? You don’t need a million-dollar budget to create compelling video content that engages your audience and drives results.

AI and video production are a match made in marketing heaven. From automating time-consuming tasks to personalizing video content at scale, AI tools offer tremendous potential for marketers. However, like any technology, the misuse or over-reliance on AI can lead to pitfalls that undermine the effectiveness of your marketing efforts.
Here’s a look at the common mistakes marketers make when integrating AI into video marketing—and how to avoid them.
Video is the cornerstone of marketing strategies. But creating high-quality, impactful video content is no small feat—especially for marketers juggling multiple campaigns, channels, and customer segments. Enter AI video editors: the next big thing in marketing innovation.
But let’s address the elephant in the room: not all tools labeled as “AI video editors” truly deliver what marketers need. Many fall short, focusing solely on generating avatars or basic edits, leaving marketers to handle the heavy lifting.
So, what is a real AI video editor, and how can it transform your marketing strategy?
Humor is one of the most powerful tools in video marketing. It captures attention, creates emotional connections, and leaves a lasting impression.
Done right, it can make your brand memorable and relatable.
Done wrong, it can confuse, alienate, or even offend your audience.
So, how do you strike the perfect balance between funny and professional?
In this episode, Brian announces an exciting new direction for the podcast as The DV Show evolves into Marketing Nerds.

If you’re seeking to improve your skills, understanding, and practices this is the place to learn really quickly and get your finger on the pulse of what is going on in the industry.
We’re doing something different this week, starting with episode 1 of a 5 part series getting into the topic of short form video production.
Videos of cats, babies tasting lemons for the first time, food recipes — you name it, we love it. And when it comes to marketing Video content is one of the most influential forms of marketing out there.
So, how can you leverage short form video content to grow your business? And what are some trends to look for?
This 5 part podcast series gets into the details starting with TikTok:
What started as a platform to showcase short form video, often silly, has caught on as one of the newest social media platforms. TikTok’s emergence as a mainstream social media staple also presents an opportunity for early adopter brands, many of which are seeing surprising results from having short form video on the app.
TikTok calls itself the leading destination for short-form mobile video. the platform has millions of active users who open the app more than 8 times a day.
The Wall Street Journal did an amazing article (https://www.wsj.com/video/series/inside-tiktoks-highly-secretive-algorithm/investigation-how-tiktok-algorithm-figures-out-your-deepest-desires/6C0C2040-FF25-4827-8528-2BD6612E3796) about their algorithm – the article and video set the tone for the somewhat “sketchy” practices TikTok is using to keep users engaged and committed to their platform with short form video.
I’m going to play the entire audio version of the Wall Street Journal video (https://www.wsj.com/video/series/inside-tiktoks-highly-secretive-algorithm/investigation-how-tiktok-algorithm-figures-out-your-deepest-desires/6C0C2040-FF25-4827-8528-2BD6612E3796) for this podcast. Listen closely and try not to get caught up in the tone and presentation…it’s sort of 20/20, CNN newsy style with documentary style music, words and prompts that kinda suggest TikTok is doing something really bad.
What I want you to do when you listen is avoid that, put yourself in the shoes of a marketer and listen to the information…to the growth TikTok's algorithm can give your business… then visit our website at thedvshow.com for times and dates for the live discussion where we are going to host a discussion related to this topic...we want your feedback! We want to know what you think about this analysis and short form video in general.

Many of you are struggling to find work in the video production industry. You're so frustrated with not finding a job, when the first opportunity you see with the word "video" in the title, you immediately apply and then proceed do whatever you can to get the attention of anyone at that company...
Trust me. The desperate "spray and pray" technique doesn't work.
After receiving so many resumes and applications over the years, I began to see a pattern from the ones who made it to the interview pile (and possibly the job) and a pattern from those who didn't.

We’re getting into my favorite topic on this episode: ecommerce video production! An entirely different creative and business process before any video can perform successfully.
Ecommerce product videos empower shoppers with product knowledge and confidence. Shopping online is an amazing resource for our busy lives and growing by leaps and bounds every day. But eCommerce sites lack the tangibility and real-life product demos that people get in brick and mortar shops. There is no salesman or pro staff to pitch the product and relay product information relative to each customer’s unique situation. eCommerce lacks the human touch. Video Review Labs creates eCommerce video experiences that make online shopping more tangible and genuine. When people are shopping for higher price point products or technically complicated products like pro camping gear or electronics, they need to thoroughly understand what they are getting in the box.
When producing product videos, every e-commerce platform is different, the audience you’re selling the product to, and creating the video for, is different. There are formats, specific lengths to adhere to, social media platforms to think about, search engine optimization and the list goes on...
On this themed episode we have two product video production experts from resultsimagery.com joining us in the studio. We have some listener questions on tap to answer with our social audio audience ready to chime in with feedback and advice, and some cool tools in the download vault this week - some free stuff you can use to get those product videos produced faster and without hassle.

We have a great podcast for you this week - hopefully solving the age old issue of a client not coughing up the goods…you know, that client who refuses to pay you after all of the video work you did. Freelancing in the video production world does have its perks but one of the downsides is that risk that your client won’t pay on time and is seemingly unreachable.
In the dating world, when someone stops calling and seems to have fallen off the radar completely, it’s referred to as “ghosting.” As you can imagine, getting ditched by last night’s dinner date is disappointing, but it isn’t nearly as traumatic as being ghosted by a client you’ve spent a lot of time and did lots of work for, but suddenly disappear on you…not cool!
Today’s guest is Dee Bowden, she teaches small business owners how to reconcile, resolve & recover OLD and OWED invoices to improve their cash flow. She just came out with a brand new book called Collect the Cash (https://collectthecash.biz/) – a great resource for anyone who needs a strategy to deal with that ghosting client.

He helps them grow their YouTube following, and turn their channels into lead generation machines that generate seven figures.
As a master of efficiency, Nate is expert in developing ways to minimize time and expense, and maximize results and today he’s on thedvshow podcast to share his 5 step formula for success.
I know I know, you’ve heard this all before from others! The ongoing claim that Youtube can make you rich with a quick system – as long as you drop $500 to learn how. We avoided this topic for years on this podcast, but when talking with Nate and realizing he is the real deal and actually doing it, this interview became very informative!
The face of video production has changed because of this pandemic –the usual productions are down, unemployment is up and we’re all trying to find ways to make ends meet. You may have even lost your full time job and looking to use your video skills as a temporary backup to start bringing in some income for yourself or your family.
The new pandemic world has different needs when it comes to video….you’re questions and emails to me personally are so telling…you're not seeing the opportunities as clear as you should in this new world…but they’re there hidden right in front of you.
It’s important to know where the opportunities are…where the “food’ is.
On this edition of the DV show podcast, we’re doing two things to lead you to the promised land where the big buffet is
We are on a mission to rid this world of bad video. Now, what is bad video and not only looks and sounds horrible, but bad video doesn't do anything.
If it doesn't engage or get results. It's bad video, and it's a waste of everyone's time and resources. One of my favorite unforgettable interviews was with Stan LeBar, the NASA engineer who headed the team that created that black and white camera for Apollo moon missions.
Stan created the camera that engaged the entire world as they watched Neil Armstrong take his first steps on the moon. We all watched this during the worldwide television broadcast of the landing in 1969. Now that broadcast wasn't perfect, but we still view the historical footage to this very day, thanks to Stan and his team.
Now we're pulling this podcast up from the archives, along with some audio not included in the original edited version, which was released back on July 12 2009. Unfortunately, Stan passed away six months later on December 23 2009. He was 84 years old. So we are once again dedicating this podcast to his accomplishment.
Video production can be easy. It really can. But video production that’s easy is rarely any good. It’s much, much easier to make a bad video.
Open up your eyes and look around...this pandemic is every video pro's chance to thrive! Let’s talk about areas of opportunity, on this edition of The DV Show.

A former Apple marketing exec is telling all of the company's secrets. He even went so far as to write an 8-page e-book that puts into words what we’ve all seen in action: how great marketing builds Apple into a well oiled sales machine. You might think there’s nothing a video business can learn from a large software company with pockets and resources as deep as Apple’s; well, think again. Download his book and watch how they can be applied through the eyes of a videographer. (more…)
Let’s face it. Price communicates an expectation of quality. The higher the price, the higher quality we expect.
We make assumptions based on price… and people make assumptions about us based on price. The amount you charge communicates the quality your customers should expect.
So what’s the right price for your clients? What impression are your rates giving your potential clients? And is it a good one? We take a look at 3 pricing models and what they say about you and which one you should be in.
