Love this all-ivory monochromatic outfit that Stevie is wearing on the way to a Día de Muertos event honoring those who have died crossing the US-Mexico border.
"This outfit is inspired by walking, meeting up with people at 19th and Dolores. There's a procession in memory of all the children who passed while crossing the border and all the families who died crossing the border or in the camps. So, that's the inspiration for this outfit. Today's organizers requested people wear all white or all black."
There's something so lovely about a simple black turtleneck and black jeans. With such clean lines, it's all about the silhouette.
"What inspires my style is simplicity. The first movie I ever saw was Breakfast at Tiffany's, so obviously the black turtleneck and black pants, from Audrey Hepburn, are a staple and I often wear a variation on this. But I also love sleek Japanese and Scandanavian silhouettes, so that's also an inspiration."
I was chatting with Dion and we saw Raquel walk by. So, it made sense that I should take her picture as well. (And as an aside, I was also at the sublime Conversations With Nick Cave event later that evening.)
"This is definitely 50s and 60s vintage. Since I’m going to see Nick Cave — I’m wearing goth-y shit."
I was walking my bike and Dion walked pass me on Valencia. It took a little maneuvering but I circled back and stopped her, at which point she admitted she was mutually checking out my duds as well. As, Tiff used to say, it's easy to ask "brethern" to pose for fashionist.
"I used to wear black, but I began to think it looked a little boring."
Saw Ying strolling and she reminded me of Anne of Green Gables.
"Japanese style inspires my style and this outfit."
Love Anna's boxy blazer and the silhouette of her outfit as well as her snakeskin boots.
"I try not to emphasize my body. Like Man Repeller, but I'm not necessarily trying to repel men. It just isn't my style to wear tight clothes."
Spotted Ryota in his Betty Boop tee and Galfy jacket wandering along Valencia near Voyager.
"I like this brand, Galfy, it's a Japanese brand ... and I like Betty Boop."
Yao is wearing a beautiful Vanessa Bruno dress and her dog Ernie was not interested in posing for this photo.
"Comfort first. I appreciate good texture that's why I care a lot about fabric. But as far as the shape, I like simle shapes. Simple shapes with texture is my thing."
Jeanna is wearing a Lisa Congdon Nooworks jumpsuit.
“So, I’m wearing a Nooworks jumpsuit that is a collaboration with Lisa Congdon that I know as a person and love as an artist. And, she’s just really inspiring. So when I saw that her fabric was coming out I made point to go right away because I was worried it would sell out. I bought it yesterday and I’ve already worn it twice. I love it.”
Met Jean outside one of my favorite vinatge shops, No.
"It's hard for me to describe my style. It's like a punky mess."
Here's an image I never posted because life got in the way. It's Carissa of People I've Loved outside of Legion in Chinatown in 2016.
Allison of Sign Language Eyewear.
"This is actually my grandpa’s top. We found it in his shed, cleaning it out. Definitely a lot of their clothing. A lot of 70s, a lot of fun prints."
“I’m wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier outfit from Afterlife. Lately, I’ve been into a gothic look, a lot of skeletons, and a darker outlook.”
Spotted Julz outside his workplace, Afterlife on Valencia Street.
"I think for style I'm inspired by movies. I'm a very visual person and I'm inspired by characters and scenes I love, right now, I'm wearing a tee from Wild at Heart."
Ran into Valerie of Rice Paper Scissors on Valencia in my mission to revive the site.
"I'm wearing First Rite. It's an outfit that makes me feel great!"
