TUF 13 - Cast Announced 28 Feb 2011 10:25 AM (14 years ago)

Oh, boy!  It's that time again!  Another round of The Ultimate Fighter is up on deck!  I think, though, that it will be hard for them to top last's round's series 12 with Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck as coaches.  There was some awesome talent in that lineup, and dick though he was, you have to admit that the bonehead antics of Koscheck helped to add some drama.  Can't wait to see what the new crop of guys has in store!

This one is fun to try. I personally do okay with it until I get to that double spin jump. Then, it all goes a bit awry..... ;)
If you do decide to try this awesome nunchaku routine, be careful. I am not responsible if you injure yourself!!

Martial Artist Profile: Jackie Chan 15 Jan 2011 4:30 PM (14 years ago)

Jackie Chan was born on April 7, 1954, in Victoria Peak, in the former Crown colony of Hong Kong, as Chan Kong-sang (meaning "born in Hong Kong"). At the age of 7, he began studying at the Chinese Drama Academy under the famous Chinese Opera Master, Yu Jim-Yuen.
There, the students learned Kung Fu, stunts, flips, somersaults and basic Chinese theatre acting techniques. At the age of 17, Jackie left the Drama Academy and began working stunts on films with the Shaw Brothers Film Company and eventually began working for the Golden Harvest film company as a stuntman, which led to his working with Bruce Lee in the movies “Fist of Fury” and “Enter the Dragon”. This was just the beginning of a long and dangerous film career that would see Jackie eventually gain huge success in both Hong Kong and eventually, the US, where he is now most famous. To date, Jackie Chan has performed or appeared in over 100 films and has also done many television appearances and specials.

Although he is known as a movie actor, stuntman and martial artist, this talented phenom has worn many different hats throughout his career. He has also been a filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, director, comedian, singer and entrepreneur. Chan is also a Cantopop and Mandopop star, and has over the years released a number of albums and sung many of the theme songs for the films in which he has starred.

Jackie Chan performs all of his own stunts in his movies, and has suffered numerous injuries over the years as a result of it. His injuries have included: a fractured skull,
dislocated pelvis, broken fingers, broken toes, and he has also broken his nose, both cheekbones, hips, sternum, neck, ankle and his ribs. None of these injuries, however, have stopped this life long stuntman from showing up on each movie set and giving his best effort. On a side note, Chan also holds the Guinness World Record for "Most Stunts By A Living Actor". His outtakes of scenes at the end of his movies have been a much enjoyed staple and trademark of his. In a few of them, you actually see him get injured.

What does the future hold for Jackie Chan? Well, he does intend to make more movies and continue with his stunt work for as long as his body allows, although he will admit to relying on wires and special effects to do some of his stunts these days. However, his talent and workmanship on all of his films remains unparalleled. Hopefully we can look forward to many more years of mind blowing stunts and fight scenes from this incredibly multitalented actor and life long martial artist.

Want to know even more about Jackie Chan? Then, check out his website and his own personal blog! Up to date news on all things Jackie Chan from the man, himself! http://jackiechan.com/

The Movie "Hero" - Definitely Worth a Second Viewing! 7 Jan 2011 11:48 AM (14 years ago)

I got to see the movie "Hero" again on cable this past weekend and was reminded of how taken away and enchanted I was by this film the very first time I saw it.
Written and directed by Yimou Zhang, and beautifully shot by cinematographer Christopher Doyle, this epic tale set in the China of around 2000 years ago is so stunningly and visually beautiful that the battles and fight scenes in it are almost secondary, so enrapt are you by the beautiful imagery. This movie was made in 2002, and became the biggest grossing movie ever in China.
Hero is the story of a king named Qin, who was obsessed with trying to gain power over all of China, which was divided up into 7 kingdoms, one of which was his own. Beset by assassins bent on stopping him from this goal, he is soon made aware of 3 in particular, Broken Sword, Flying Snow and Sky.
To anyone who defeated the three assassins, the King of Qin promised great power, mountains of gold and a private audience with the King himself.  However, defeating these three killers is a near impossible task.  Yet, a warrior called "Nameless" ends up defeating them all with his superior, life long learned swordsmanship. As each one says to him in their last dying words "your sword is so swift!" He calls attention to this in an audience granted him by the king. Little does the king know, however, he is Nameless next target.

The scenes are achingly gorgeous! I could watch this movie over again another five times and I highly recommend it for one of those days when you want to be swept away by a tale of honor, courage, and stark beauty. Jet Li in the role of Nameless plays the part with a quiet, strong dignity and all the other characters hold their parts strongly and well. Pop up some popcorn, grab a large drink, snuggle up in your blanket on the couch and pop this one in the DVD. You will be just as swept up by the beauty and magic of this film as I was. A definite 5 Stars!

The Cast:

Jet Li
Tony Leung Chiu Wai
Maggie Cheung
Ziyi Zhang
Donnie Yen
Daoming Chen

UFC 124 Koscheck vs St Pierre 11 Dec 2010 8:56 AM (14 years ago)

That's right, it's on tonight, folks! My man GSP vs Koscheck. I will be sitting right here watching GSP whup that ass. I will also post the links to all the free, live streaming video sites I find that have the fight. And yes, I always find it. Check back later to get the links so you can watch it, too. This one is gonna be a house rocka!

***They are really clamping down tight on the live streaming vids of the fight tonight. They are taking the links down as fast as sites put them up, and leaving this message on the search engine pages (and there are dozens of these removals, let me tell ya!):

"In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 2 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org"

Guess there is no loophole available this time. I've never seen them track these sites down and remove the content so fast! Gotta pay for it tonight, babes! I'm headed to a local bar that has the fights on so I can see UFC 124. Hey, I'll probably have a better time there anyway! Good luck to you all. Hope you get to see it!

TUF 12 Finale -- Brookins vs Johnson 3 Dec 2010 3:23 PM (14 years ago)

After a really good cycle of The Ultimate Fighter with George St. Pierre and Josh Koschek as coaches, it all boils down to these two in the finale:

...and I gotta tell ya, Brookins (on the left) is the one, IMO. I was impressed with him from the start, this unassuming, sweet natured, wise beyond his years, yoga practicing fighter who has probably had to show more than one bully the might and power behind those serene puppy dog eyes.... Don't be fooled -- Brookins can kick some ass!

The final match up between him and Michael Johnson should be a good one, but although Michael brings some power and explosiveness to the table, he's spotty. He'll give you one aggressive, power packed round of non stop action and scoring followed by a completely lackluster one that sees him winded, sluggish and taking his opponent to the ground and just laying there doing nothing with the position. His last fight went to a split decision, and I tell you, he just squeaked it out.

Brookins, on the other hand, is such a focused, mentally prepared and talented young fighter that I think that in time he will soon be able to get the win against anyone that meets him in the Octagon. He won all of his matches decisively, with ridiculous, death clinch chokes. I'm sure his opponents always underestimate his power. And aside from that, ya just gotta like this kid. No ego, no attitude, no BS. The type of guy you'd love to see your daughter bring home, for Chrissake!

Be sure to tune in tomorrow, Dec 11th on Spike TV to see which one of these new talents takes the title and wins the $100,000 MMA contract with the UFC.

Iaido - Katana Sword Demonstration 10 Nov 2010 5:34 PM (14 years ago)

Awesome. I need to learn this. Just the sound that blade makes slicing through the air does it for me.
It would also be cool to walk through the streets of New York with the full ghi and gear on. It would cut me a clear path without my even having to unsheath the sword.

So, Who's It Gonna Be..... 27 May 2010 12:07 PM (15 years ago)

Rampage or Rashad?

I'll tell you right now who my favorite is -- Rashad Evans. I just think he's the more well rounded fighter, he has much better conditioning ALL YEAR ROUND, not just before bouts, and also, he's the more intelligent fighter. Hell, he's the more intelligent person, and you know we just love some brains mixed in with the brawn around here. But that aside, I think that Rashad is going to take it.

I have nothing against Quentin Rampage Jackson. I find him quite entertaining, although a bit on the immature side for such a grown man. But hey, that's part of his shtick, and it's also what makes it fun to watch anything he's in. He's also got a ton of talent at his disposal. Hell, I wouldn't want to have to face him on the other side of the cage! But in this one, I'm giving it to Rashad.

I'm betting that this is going to be on HELL of a fight! I can't wait!

The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 - It's Gonna Be a Banger! 31 Mar 2010 7:32 PM (15 years ago)

Wow! On tonight's opening episode of the 11th season of TUF there was some serious talent on hand. Finally, a cast of guys that really came to fight (well, except that one guy from France that wimped out and quit in the middle of his bout).
From fight one, these guys came out trying to do damage and break some bones.
With this level of talent on hand, and super stars Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz training this crop of guys, I'm gonna be glued to my set every Wednesday to catch the action.

Among the guys to watch are:

This bit of yumminess right here. I think I'm gonna add him to my potential husband list, cuz if he can fight like that and still look THIS good, then DAMN ~ that's MY kinda man!

Jamie Yaeger
(we will have to work on that hair, though. Dude, the gnarly, out of control fro is SO last year!)

From Hawaii, a vicious fighter definitely ready to bring it:

Brad Tavares

And this guy, who actually broke his best friend's nose to get into the house:

Clayton McKinney

All in all, it promises to be a good season, and I'm ready for the blowouts sure to rise up between Chuck and Tito (although I never know how much of that is real, and how much is just hype for the cameras).
Stay tuned for some true warrior action!

Laila Ali Makes Pregnancy Look Gorgeous! 28 Jan 2010 12:46 PM (15 years ago)

Ali on the cover of Pregnancy Magazine

It's not often that you get to see a boxer "with child", but Laila Ali managed to make it look absolutely beautiful before giving birth to her son, Curtis, born in August.
Will the little fellow grow up to be a fighter just like Mom and Grandpa? Only time will tell!

Ali, hubby and the adorable little warrior babe

So, is this the official end to Laila Ali's flirtation with a boxing career? Once again, time will only tell. In the meantime, I have to say, pregnant boxer moms could be a good trend. What's next, a pregnant Gina Carrano? How about a mommyfied Lucia Rijker? Hmmmmmmm....would certainly be interesting to see, wouldn't it? ;)
