In addition to its partnerships with MLB and NBA teams, AT&T Sports Networks is already the local broadcast partner for two NHL teams, the Vegas Golden Knights and the Pittsburgh Penguins, via its regional sports networks branded as AT&T SportsNet.
“Our partnership with ROOT SPORTS gives our fans around the Pacific Northwest a home that is already familiar to them,” said Tod Leiweke, CEO of the Seattle Kraken. “Their experience with the Seattle Mariners made them a great choice to build a broadcast that will be unique for our fans. He will join fellow Team Broadcaster and radio play-by-play voice, Everett Fitzhugh, to create a powerful duo that will be the voice of hockey in the Pacific Northwest.
“It is an honor to join the Seattle Kraken as their inaugural television voice,” said Forslund. “I am looking forward to reuniting with Ron Francis and working alongside Everett Fitzhugh. Throughout my career I have cherished my connection with fans. To get the chance to create that bond and tell the Kraken story from day one is a magnificent opportunity. “This is an important step for ROOT SPORTS and great news for Mariners fans,” said Patrick Crumb, president of AT&T Sports Networks, which owns and operates ROOT SPORTS. “We will continue to work toward expanding our streaming rights portfolio so fans will have additional ways to watch the sports content they love, including on phones, tablets and other mobile devices.”
“It is great news that our game telecasts on ROOT Sports Northwest will be streamed in-market and available on phones and tablets to our fans in the Northwest. Mariners fans will now be able to watch our games both at home and on the various mobile platforms when they are anywhere within the five-state region,” said Mariners Executive Vice President of Business Operations Bob Aylward.
AT&T Sports Networks’ addition of Mariners authenticated in-market streaming rights is part of its ongoing effort to make more live sports content available to fans who want to stream their games.
To stream Mariners games for the remainder of the 2017 season, fans have to be current customers of a ROOT SPORTS distributor and subscribe to a level of service that includes the regional sports network. MLBAM will authenticate ROOT SPORTS viewers on MLB.com, seattlemariners.com and MLB.com At Bat, and ROOT SPORTS is developing a platform of its own to authenticate and deliver the games.
