DinoCirkus.
With a slight delay, here's this month's selection from Mr Stormy, who has ventured into different corners of the archive to bring us a unique take on the 1970 Wessex Studios recording of Cirkus, blended with 1994's Dinosaur from the THRAK recording sessions at Real World.
From Sid Smith’s notes: “Both striking and slightly unsettling in places, especially when Gordon Haskell’s vocals rise from behind the whirling maelstrom of Mellotrons and organ, the whole piece is akin to a trippy, phantasmagorical fever dream.”

Dave Ball has died aged 66.
Born in Blackpool in 1959, Ball studied art in Leeds, where he met singer Marc Almond. Together they formed Soft Cell, whose 1981 cover of Tainted Love became a global hit and a defining anthem of the synth-pop era. Their debut album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret blended electronic minimalism with seedy glamour and emotional intensity, influencing generations of pop and dance artists.
After Soft Cell’s initial split, Ball co-founded The Grid with Richard Norris, producing a string of innovative 1990s dance hits, including Swamp Thing and Floatation, merging club culture with his distinctive melodic touch. He later reunited with Almond for new Soft Cell albums and tours, remaining an active and much-loved figure in British electronic music.
In 2021, as a member of The Grid, he collaborated with Robert Fripp on the instrumental album Leviathan, revisiting a partnership that dated back to 1993 when The Grid had contributed the Darshan (Translucent Mix) to the mini-album release by Sylvian & Fripp.
Paying tribute to his musical partner on Soft Cell’s website, Richard Norris wrote: “Dave has been a huge part of my musical life for many years. Being in a duo with someone is different from being in a band: the bond is very tight. That’s how it was with us. We went through so many remarkable, extraordinary, life-affirming experiences together. Thank you, Dave. Thanks for the good times, the endless laughter, your unwavering friendship. Most of all, thank you for the music.”

Collaborations: Sylvian/Fripp Darshan (1993), and The Grid/Fripp Leviathan (2021).

A reminder that Friday October 24 sees the release of new editions of In The Wake of Poseidon and Lizard.
King Crimson’s second and third albums are remixed in Stereo, 5.1 Surround and Dolby Atmos by Steven Wilson, with Elemental Mixes by David Singleton. They also include Complete Recording Sessions and new sleeve notes by Sid Smith. The Lizard Elemental Mixes are also released on 200-gram super heavyweight vinyl and on digital platforms.
PROG magazine says Steven Wilson's mixes “make impressive use of the stereo spectrum, with the detailed flow of the music always in focus”, whilst David Singleton's mixes “are a fascinating opportunity to look under the hood of the songs”.

For anyone who has experienced difficulties downloading the FLAC versions of the 2015 Canadian Tour, we are happy to announce that this has now been fixed.
We received a number of queries regarding the zipped files being incomplete when downloading the FLAC audio. The team have been hard at work to remedy this. These concerts were made available in higher resolution 24/48 audio, and the larger-than-usual file sizes this generated were apparently causing this problem.
There was also an omission from the Royal Theatre in Victoria, BC on 29th November, with Level Five now restored to its rightful place in the running order.
So apologies for the inconvenience caused, and please resume your downloading from the Orders section on your Account page.
