Why healthy boundaries are key to greater success? 16 Oct 2:06 AM (5 days ago)

Do you ever feel resentful, overwhelmed, or like people are constantly overstepping? Chances are, your boundaries need some work.

Healthy boundaries aren’t just about saying “no.” They’re about protecting your energy, boosting your confidence, and creating the space you need to thrive — both personally and professionally.

As Marshall Goldsmith says in his book title, What Got You Here Won’t Get You There, even high-performing leaders and business owners often struggle with change. It’s a common growth edge, and one worth paying attention to if you want to take your success to the next level.

Why Boundaries Matter

Boundaries come up all the time in my coaching work. If you’re naturally a caretaker or fixer, you might find it uncomfortable to set limits — but there’s no shame in it. Boundaries are part of personal growth.

The younger version of me didn’t have strong boundaries. I said “yes” too often, even when I didn’t want to. As a new coach, I took on too much responsibility for my clients’ results. Over time, I’ve learned that my role is to guide and support, not to carry the weight of someone else’s choices. That shift alone gave me more freedom, clarity, and joy in my work.

And it’s not just in business. With three teenagers at home (who are forever testing limits as they grow), I’ve had plenty of practice reinforcing my own boundaries in daily life.

3 Steps to Building Stronger Boundaries

Here are three simple ways to start setting healthier boundaries:

1  Get clear on what you need — You can’t communicate a boundary if you don’t know what matters to you.

2  Process your feelings before you speak — Check in with yourself. Sometimes journaling or a short pause can help you respond calmly instead of reacting.

3  Communicate clearly and calmly — State your boundary in a steady voice, without anger or resentment. Then, let go of their reaction. Your responsibility ends once you’ve spoken your truth.

Remember: boundaries are for YOU. Not everyone will like them, and that’s okay. What matters is that you’re honouring yourself.

A Real-Life Example

Just this week, my eldest daughter came to me feeling overwhelmed at her internship. She had been given too many projects at once. My advice? “Speak up. Let your manager know you’re at capacity, and ask which tasks are the priority.”

That’s the power of boundaries — they create clarity for everyone involved.

Your Next Step

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or frustrated with a challenging situation in your career, business, or personal life, boundaries might be part of the answer.

I’d love to help you get clarity on what’s holding you back and map your next steps forward.

To celebrate my 18th year as a business consultant and coach I have brought together 18 of my favorite principles and quotes that I share with my clients on a day-to-day basis and use myself in my business and life.

It is easy to list them, it takes effort and commitment to use these tips and apply them to your life on a consistent basis. It is worth the effort and note they are not in any particular order.

1. Be open to continuous learning.
2. Let go of the past and learn to move on.
3. Never ever give up on your dreams.
4. Every step you take forward, leads you closer to your dreams.
5. You are worthy of the very best.
6. You were born to be successful.
7. Your purpose is outside your comfort zone.
8. Believe in your dreams, they were given to you for a reason.
9. It all comes back to love.
10. Find your why and remember it every day.
11. Be willing to invest in yourself and your own growth.
12. Surrender your fears to your higher power.
13. Abundance is within you and all around you.
14. Feel the fear and do it – thanks to Susan Jeffers.
15. Hire a mentor/coach who you resonate with and share common core values.
16. Make space in your life for the new.
17. Your new life is going to cost you your old one.
18. Just do it – thanks to Nike!

10-point project management guide to get things done 22 Mar 2022 5:43 AM (3 years ago)

The Spring Equinox was on Sunday 20th March, so we are officially in Spring. It’s a good time to declutter your work and lives and bring some fresh energy and balance into what you do. Daffodils always inspire me to stand tall, be vibrant and to bloom where you are planted so I have been doing some decluttering in my own business and life and have put my project manager hat back on.

Here are my top 10 project management tips to help you to take stock and see what where you can make some changes or stop doing things:

1. ‘Start with the end in mind’. This Stephen Covey quote reminds us to start each day or project with a clear vision of the desired outcome and results.

2. Believe you can do it and be super clear what is involved.

3. Share your understanding of the vision with your stakeholders and ask for their input. Listen.

4. Clarify where you are now, what is already working well and what isn’t working well.

5. Identify the gaps – double check they are within the scope of your project.

6. Analyse what is involved and chunk it down into manageable sized pieces of work. Remember the saying when you are facing what seems like an impossible task – ‘How do you eat an elephant?’ One bite at a time.

7. Estimate the effort, time and the cost.

8. Explore possibilities to identify the best solution. Innovate or get creative rather than doing what you have always done.

9. Create a plan, get the go ahead and begin to make it happen – implement the plan. You may even end up with several projects. Remember to prioritise.

10. Adapt as you go to overcome any obstacles you meet and celebrate along the way to keep yourself motivated and inspired as you go.

These steps sound simple yet they are not always easy.

As a project manager and coach I help busy leaders, consultants, project managers and entrepreneurs to get out of their own way and deliver successful projects with more ease and less effort.

If you are struggling with a project that is constantly going off track or feeling exhausted being under constant pressure to deliver, I’m inviting you to a Business Clarity Call where we will explore what is getting in your way and how I can support you. Book your call with me here and let’s see how you can get things done with less effort and more ease.

How a 30 Day Challenge can help you get motivated? 17 Sep 2021 9:28 AM (4 years ago)

After my cancer treatment was finished and our holidays were over, I was asking myself what’s next. How was I going to move on and get back to living and adjusting to my new lifestyle?

So, I decided to do a 30-Day Fitness Challenge in August and to share it on Facebook and Instagram with my friends and followers. Doing this challenge was firstly going to keep me moving forward and secondly, it would help me to stay focused on my recovery.

Wow I just loved doing this challenge and I’m encouraging you to do one if you need an extra boost to get yourself through a transition like me from my treatment to getting back to living or in the middle of a change in your work  or business.

Here’s what I learned about doing challenges:

– Challenges create a momentum for change especially when you share them with your friends and followers

– It will motivate you to get up and do the challenge each day when you have personally committed to doing it

– You will have a way and a container of time to develop a new habit for yourself

– It will inspire you to feel good when you are achieving your challenge each day. I couldn’t believe the enthusiasm I had to get up and do the exercise each day. Even when I had to go slow some days as I was building my energy and strength back up

– You will have fuel to keep you moving forward and aim towards your challenge. It doesn’t have to be hard, its more about setting the challenge to your own needs and capability

– Challenges help you to see new possibilities and to do new things

– You will have a growth and expansive mindset

– You inspire others around you to join in or support you through your challenge. People love to help other people.

Now you know exactly why I love them, and why I was led to creating the September Leadership Challenge for you and myself to show up in my business.

As part of the challenge to celebrate my recovery and being 17 years in business this year, I opened 7 complementary Business Clarity Calls in September to support 7 purpose driven women to get unstuck and to reignite their passion in their business and life. Autumn is a great time to let go of things that are aren’t serving you, habits or behaviours you want to stop and to start afresh.

One of the key lessons I learnt from starting the September Leadership Challenge was to lead with grace & ease. This is a shift I’m personally working on in my business & life.

If you are feeling stuck in your career or business, book one of the 2 spaces remaining in September here.

You can follow and participate with the September Leadership Challenge on any of my social media platforms on Facebook ,  Instagram or Youtube.

To help you I’m inviting you in with a 7 day Leadership Challenge I’m running to help you to lead with grace and ease. Watch this short video to see what’s involved and to have some fun!

Now its your turn to share in the comments, I would love to hear your thoughts about 30 day challenges.

How cancer helped me be a better leader? 8 Apr 2021 9:40 AM (4 years ago)

It is often in our most challenging moments that we grow. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2020 in the middle of a pandemic and I’ve decided to share how my journey is helping me to be a better leader. My hope is that you too can learn from my experience whether you are facing your own challenges in health, life, business or work.

My life was turned upside down quickly. From receiving a recall letter in early December 2020, to biopsies, to getting results and surgery a week before Christmas to starting my chemotherapy treatment in early February 2021. I was given the choice – have your surgery next Monday or wait until after Christmas. After some short reflection I decided next week was the best option and I was so glad I did as we were back in lock-down in January.

When faced with sudden change you always have a choice how to respond. Here are some of the choices I made that have served me well.

I made a choice I was going to handle this and lead myself and our family through this the best way I could. Yes it was scary and it was unknown. Yet from the beginning I was strong and focused on my recovery and sustaining myself each step of the way instead of getting caught up in ‘why me’ or the drama of the word ‘cancer’.

I never looked at this as a fight against cancer. Everyone’s journey is unique so what I’m sharing with you is my own experience. I see myself on a healing recovery journey bringing my body and mind back to wholeness. Remember my diagnosis was found at the early stage of cancer. Dealing with cancer is a life-changing experience and it is not to be underestimated. It takes its toll physically, emotionally, and spiritually for you and your family. You can make it easier by how you respond to it. What we think about what is happening influences our behaviour which influences our actions and how we deal with it.

This may not be for everyone but it gave me a sense of I am leading the way on this. My first cycle of chemo was the hardest as it was unknown. My body was nervous in the days leading up to it and I had to really work on being present to what was happening rather than let fear take me over. From a practical side I decided to get my hair shaved after my 1st cycle of chemotherapy rather than wait for it to fall out gradually. Each cycle of my chemotherapy got easier as I tracked my symptoms, learning to rest when my body needed it and feeling more confident, I could manage this. And I did.

I wanted to be authentic about what was happening in the moment rather than hide and pretend everything is perfect. I made a choice that I was going to be kind and loving to myself and my family along the way. And I had to learn to practice this at a whole new level.

It is not easy to watch a family member go through this. It meant having a real conversation with our children two weeks before Christmas and being there for them as they come to terms with our new reality. The more love and compassion you can have for yourself and everyone involved along the journey makes it a whole lot easier to tolerate the treatment and help with your recovery. This looks like allowing people to have their feelings and not trying to diminish them, taking space to process your feelings and encouraging everyone to get on with life as much as possible, myself included, as I went through my treatment.

All of this has rippled out into my business too, showing up and speaking my truth about my journey. I had to dig a bit deeper for the courage to share my journey on Linkedin. I was blown away by the support and understanding from clients, colleagues and friends wishing me a speedy recovery and messages from other women who have already been on this journey.

The thought about writing this blog about how I have dealt with my journey came to me during one of my sleepless nights. It inspired me to share it with you and how we can access our strengths to lead ourselves through unexpected events. Some of these strengths include self-leadership, vision, resilience, empathy, connection and intuition. I’m sure many of you have learned to access these through the pandemic.

I see years of working in leadership and personal development coming together to sustain me through my own challenging time and how I have learned to own and value my strengths as a Highly Sensitive Leader to be able to deeply tune into what is needed. For that I am grateful and my innate ability to see solutions and guide others to succeed through change and challenging times and situations.

This time it happened to be myself and my own health and family I was leading and guiding. From learning to prioritise my own needs, to communicate more effectively by having open and frank communication with my family, clients, colleagues, neighbours and health team and to asking for and receiving the support I needed along the way.

All of this has propelled me forward to embrace my purpose at a deeper level and to show up to support and help other leaders like me, who want to access their resilience and strengths to lead more effectively and make a difference during these uncertain times.

I am so looking forward to returning to my business in the coming months with my renewed sense of purpose. In the meantime, I will keep in touch and I would love to hear your thoughts and comments below.

Finding Your Why? 24 Sep 2020 6:28 AM (5 years ago)

Your why is more important today than ever before as a leader.

Why? Because it will help you to stay connected to your business despite the uncertainty and change that is happening in the world today.

I have done this exercise a few times and to be honest the first few times I did it, it was more from my head than my heart.

Here are a few tips to help you with finding your why:

1. Take time to get curious and explore what your why is

Dedicate some time to getting curious and exploring what is your why. I recommend doing this exercise in a quiet space and somewhere you can relax and access your creativity. You may choose to create a mind map or so a simple brainstorming session.

2. Write it down

Write it down somewhere you can see it and refer to it regularly. It is not something you look at once a year. It is something to inspire you especially on the days when you feel things aren’t working out the way you would like them.

3. Allow it to evolve as you evolve.

Your why will get stronger as you evolve and grow in your business. The more you are connected to your why the more powerful it will be to hold you strong to move forward with your business.

I’m inviting you to join us for my free webinar on 21st October at 12noon, Leading Change in Uncertain Times where I will be sharing my tips and strategies on how to lead and navigate change today by finding new solutions. Book your place here: https://www.fidelmagreene.com/free-webinar-leading-change-in-uncertain-times/.

I would love to hear your comments and any questions you may have about creating your why.

Being Vs Doing and why it’s important as a leader today 17 Jul 2020 5:56 AM (5 years ago)

There is a real difference when you consciously show up in your business and are aware who you are being vs when you are constantly doing, doing, doing.

When you are busy doing things constantly on that thread-mill it can be easy to lose sight of who you are being and not being productive. It happens the best of us at different times. That is why it is important for you to become conscious who you are being in your business.

Are you being the leader you are being called to be?

Many women I work with struggle to see themselves as leaders yet the have all the qualities and traits to do the job and I am talking from my own experience too. There is such an opportunity for women to step up and be the leaders of their businesses today. I am stepping up as a leader myself, supporting my clients who want to be more accountable and visible, helping them to get their businesses off the ground and stepping up to their next level.

Here are two ways I have used myself to help you show up in a different way so you can become the leader in your own business and life today.

Make the decision you are a leader
When you make the decision that you are going to be the leader of your own business and life it needs to come from deep inside you so you will show up with a different energy.

Maybe you see leadership as this masculine norm of leadership with men in suits or men around a board table. Its about you allowing yourself to be yourself and accepting there are different styles of leadership and that they do not have to look the same. It is not about comparing yourself to other men or women. It is about you owning your value and the value you bring to the table and owning your own leadership style even if it is different to how other people lead. You can have your own style and still be successful too and take your place at the table.

I’m inviting you to think about that – is there somewhere you are being called to take that place at the table and to honour yourself as a leader? Are you willing to change your perception of what it means to be a leader today?

With the chaos and change brought about with the pandemic there is a need to bring more feminine qualities to the table. It is about making a difference as you bring more empathy, more connection, intuition, being authentic and being your true self. These are the qualities of a Highly Sensitive Leader that I am learning to embrace more and more and helping other leaders to embrace to bring more balance into the workplace today.

Become the leader you want to be
Once you have made the decision it is about you being the leader who can influence change in the world today by being yourself and showing up. It is not about waiting for others to tell you what to do or asking for permission.

When you own your value, experience and gifts, as you show up fully you will open yourself to new opportunities and your next level.

Here is what will happen if you don’t change anything – you will continue to procrastinate, to over-think and over analyse.

Having a mindset of a leader you are not going to allow yourself to get stuck in procrastination and over-analysis. You will put a plan in place so you can serve as a leader in your business and make the difference you want to see in the world. You will start to connect with your own intuition and find the answers within yourself to invite in new opportunities.

Watch my livestream I did last week were I discussed this here

Now it’s your turn – how can you get curious about making this shift in who you are being and your own perception what it is to be a leader today? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
