Nick Vivid is a sonic alchemist who manages to fuse the swagger of 70s stadium rock with the slick neon futurism of 80s synth-funk, all underpinned by the gritty, low-fidelity pulse of 90s beat culture. More than a retro nod, his music is a vibrant, modern synthesis, creating a sound critics call “an undeniable groove” (American Songwriter). Vivid is a master of blending eras—his meticulous analog production is perfectly tailored for a digital world, earning him performance slots opening for diverse acts like Ween and Bret Michaels.
Operating out of his Ridgewood Queens studio, Vivid’s distinct sound is characterized by fat analog synthesizers, punchy vintage drum machines, and a soulful vocal delivery that pays homage to legends while carving its own path. He’s a multi-instrumentalist whose songs are built on a foundation of power-pop hooks and deep, undeniable funk rhythms. His self-produced work is a testament to the belief that warmth and soul are the key ingredients missing from modern music, delivering a sound that is both immediately familiar and completely fresh.
Vivid’s upcoming album, Volatile, due out October 24, 2025, is his most personal and ambitious project yet: a love letter to the ever-changing, endlessly inspiring concrete metropolis of New York City. The record captures the city’s energy, moving effortlessly from the ecstatic heights of a late-night rooftop party to the gritty introspection of a solitary subway ride. It’s a sonic tour that mirrors NYC’s own history, drawing on the raw, soulful rock of the downtown scene, the dance floor euphoria of disco’s golden age, and the rhythmic complexity of contemporary electronic beats. Volatile is a complex, cinematic album that solidifies Vivid’s place as an artist capable of creating both deep atmosphere and immediate, radio-ready anthems.
With critical recognition from American Songwriter magazine and a proven ability to connect with diverse audiences across the country, Nick Vivid is an artist with clear upward momentum. His unique cross-genre appeal allows him to fit seamlessly onto bills spanning Rock, Funk, and Electronic stages. As the release of Volatile approaches, Vivid is poised to bring his high-energy, authentic, and era-defying sound to a much larger global audience.
NYC Lo-Fi Electronic Funk artist Nick Vivid announces Summer Tour.
Nick Vivid is heading out on the road with the “No More Seclusion” Summer tour – a nod to the title of his most recent release “No More Secrets”, which came out in November 2021. In Nick’s eyes, this occasion is long overdue. “With everything that is going on, it’s amazing I’m even able to do this at all right now,” says Nick. “But I’m really excited to finally get back on the road and play again.”
The 15 city tour, which kicks off June 24th at Wonderville in Brooklyn NY, will be promoting at least one new release – the 45 RPM translucent red vinyl edition of “No More Secrets”, which was delayed due to the global vinyl shortage. “It took over half a year to get the records in because the majors own everything and covid cut down production. But now that it’s here, I think people will really dig it.”
The tour will be making stops throughout the summer in cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis, Boston, and Asheville. A current list of dates can be found at https://www.nickvivid.com
Vivid, who in recent months has been mostly absent from social media, spent the downtime working in his studio searching for new sounds. “I’ve been demoing ideas and searching for the next vibe, building funky fuzz pedals and circuit bending cheap synths.” Once the “No More Seclusion” tour concludes in late September, Nick plans to record the follow up to “No More Secrets”. “The goal is to kinda do what I was going to do pre-pandemic – and that’s make an album in 3 or 4 months, and then a proper world tour – launch it off next spring for SXSW in Austin. Then do Europe, Japan – if the world’s in a better place by then, that is. But that’s the idea.”
The vinyl edition of No More Secrets is available for pre-order at nickvivid.com. Cassette and CD versions are currently available. The album is currently streaming at all digital outlets such as Spotify and Amazon.
“Vivid is a shapeshifter and a hip shaker with a mind moving in multi-colored frames per second” (Flaunt)
“Spinning around 1970s disco and funk, and set around Vivid’s panache of falsetto, No More Secrets treks through trance pulses of ‘We Can Ride’ and mellower moves of ‘Blackmail’ and ‘The Sky is Falling.’ First single ‘Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe),’ explores one’s choices–for all the right and wrong reasons.”
– American Songwriter“No More Secrets opens a door to escape the norm, incessant worries, and go someplace new from the first single ‘Hush Money (Straight to Bribe)’ addressing bullshit vs. honest, the empowering ‘We Can Ride,’ reflections of the pandemic and self-sabotage on ‘I Wanna Reign Again’ and ‘Ain’t Enough,’ and starting over with a cleaner palette on ‘Blank Slate.’ – Flaunt“Nick Vivid might just be New York City’s most exciting and experimental underground artist, mixing exploratory, acid-rock wildness with gut-punch dance and electronic sounds.” – Guitar World“One of today’s most unique, contemporary artists” – Performer Magazine
NYC Indie Electronic/Psychedelic Artist NICK VIVID Releases Lo-fi Art-Funk Album No More Secrets
Album Release Show Tomorrow (Nov 13) at the
Brooklyn barALL NIGHT SKATE
NOVEMBER12,2021(NewYork,NY)—“Both of my parents passed away since the release of my last album and I was able to look at my relationships with them more objectively,” says NYC solo artist and electrifying performer NickVivid about his new album No More Secrets out today via MegaPlatinumRecords. “The family secrets didn’t need to be hidden anymore. There weren’t any super dark ones in my case, but I allowed myself to see my relationship with my parents more honestly than I did when they were alive.” For him, there was a freedom in making this album and speaking openly about who he is and where he comes from. Plus, he started working on the album in February 2020 and soon faced the added sense of powerlessness that the pandemic brought on, which was something all humanity could relate to. It created a person with nothing to lose. “There was a lot of soul searching all around. I put those things into the music,” he says. “The [phrase] ‘No More Secrets’ said what the album was about for me.”
NoMoreSecrets arrives hot on the heels of Vivid’s newest single, the ooey gooey psychedelic track “I Wanna Reign Again” about how he, like most people after all the Covid lockdowns and restrictions, just wants to “get back out there and live again.” The album’s previous singles “Trainers” (about second chances and starting anew when something isn’t working out the way you want it to) and “Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe)” (about the choice of being a “bullshitter” vs. being an “honest person”) hone in on a main theme on the album of owning one’s choices as to who we are and what we’re about and how personal limits can be shattered the moment we decide to shatter them.
Elsewhere on the album, there’s a hypnotic electro-psych tune about “allowing life to happen” instead of complaining about it on social media (“We Can Ride”), a lo-fi synth tune about empty threats (“Blackmail”), a menacing, downbeat electro track about open honesty (“No More Secrets”), and a swirling indie-electro song with hints of ’80s video game soundscapes about subconscious self-sabotage (“Ain’t Enough”). There’s also a cathartic groovy lo-fitune written about the effects he experienced with his mother’s death (“The Sky is Falling”). Closing out the album is a funky indie track (“Blank Slate“) that brings thereassuring, optimistictheme back into focus, “’Maybe we didn’t screw up too badly here… Things just might turn out ok.'” He adds that this fourth album has as much to do with him as it does with the loss of his parents, “the complicated relationships with them and the strange mix of values they each passed down.”
Praise From The Press:
“…..the wider context for the music engages with some big-picture questions and thoughts about life. Does it ever really work to take short cuts? Aren’t we all tempted to buy into the ‘Hush Money’ that allows negative forces to prevail all too easily in the world? Nick Vivid’s questioning tone and approachable music evades easy answers. After all, that would be a short cut, too.” – WildFire Music
“It wouldn’t do Vivid any justice to describe his sound with only one or two words because it is eclectic as it is eccentric, and it is nostalgic as it is modern. This is a sound that makes you feel, and most likely moves your body as well.” – Glamglare
“New York’s indie electronic multi-instrumentalist artist Nick Vivid is all about that sweet, sweet funk, deliverance and worship, enthusiasm on tap. Vivid by name, Vivid by nature.” – So Sally Plays
“[‘Trainers’ is] a fun feel-good anthem that would fit perfectly on your weekend playlist while making you feel like you’re back at the roller rinks or arcades of your childhood.” – TREMG Magazine
“Vivid was exposed to the top shelf of 20th-century rock and soul from a tender age. Now residing in New York City, Vivid reflects these influences through the warm filter of a ‘70s cosmopolitan rockstar.” – Music Fiends
“Nick Vivid has it going on! He’s a rock star in the best sense of the word, as well as a sonic wizard, dreamer, and fearless innovator.” – Medium
“We don’t know Nick, but his output is funky, fun and flamboyant. He’ll be a welcome addition to your playlists.” – News Whistle
“Nick Vivid is a true testament to New York City’s culture, talent, and ever-changing mood.” – Earmilk
Vivid states that the sounds of this fourth album features even more “analog goodness” and “champions that dirty DIY vibe” than his last album (2019’s Blissed Out). “I built a new studio in my apartment in Queens right after the 2019 tour for my last album and I mixed the whole thing to tape through a 1980s recording console that I modded.” He adds that he spent a lot of time with his mastering engineer (Dan Millice at Dan Millice Mastering) to get it “just right.” “It’s important to me to never lose that spirit I had when I was 16 making my first records. I want it to be on point, but never too professional. I need some danger and rough edges in my music and performances. I want to be well-rehearsed, but I need the potential for things to go off the rails at any moment. My art thrives in that tension.”
Not beholden to any trends, Vivid states, “I think I’ve found a way to fuse everything I love about ‘60s psychedelic funk, ‘70s glam rock, ‘80s new wave, and ‘90s hip hop into my own voice.” Flaunt declares he’s a “Shapeshifter and a hip shaker with a mind moving in multi-colored frames per second” while Glamglare lauds the album is, “Beautifully groovy blues-inspired disco-pop indie-rock.”
Nick was raised in Buffalo, NY and was introduced to soul and blues music by a radio DJ father and a glam rock-loving mother whose musical tastes shaped his musical output. He eventually moved to NYC to work with Bill Aucoin (original manager of KISS and Billy Idol) and had released three solo albums prior to No More Secrets (April 2016’s WatchItFly, October 2017’s Nicksploitation, and May 2019’s BlissedOut). While Vivid is a front man/solo musician/song and dance man, he is also a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, drums, keys) as well as engineer and producer – an all-encompassing artist.

NYC Indie Electronic Funk Artist NICK VIVID Releases Synth-y, Psychedelica Single “I Wanna Reign Again“
about getting back out in the world after Covid lockdowns / restrictions
New album No More Secrets out November 12
Record Release Party at ALL NIGHT SKATE in Brooklyn on November 13
OCTOBER 22, 2021 (NewYork,NY) — “It’s a song about just wanting to feel alive,” says NYC solo artist and electrifying performer NickVivid about his new hallucinogenic new synth-y, psychedelica single, “I Wanna Reign Again,” from his upcoming LP No More Secrets (release date: November12,2021via MegaPlatinumRecords). The track is about the idea that he, like most people after all the Covid lockdowns and restrictions, just wants to “get back out there and live again. I get all of the frustration out there. I feel for people who don’t have the patience or tolerance. I barely have it myself sometimes, but I try to balance that out with some faith that everything is going to work out for the best eventually if I get out of my own way and let things happen. That’s where the line ‘Help me get out of the way’ comes from – to stop trying so hard.”
Vivid says the ooey gooey psychedelic track is about being 100% completely and utterly “in sync with things.” He adds, “When I’m moving against the grain of the universe, I can tell and it’s not pleasant. Things don’t flow smoothly, my ego is probably working overtime, and my instincts are out of sorts.” The track began as two songs that were actually merged together, with the second half being finished first. “That’s a real Sly and the Family Stone influenced bit,” he says. “You can hear me copying a bit of the vibe of their track ‘Poet’ on that one. I will always proudly wear my influences on my sleeve.”
“I Wanna Reign Again” comes on the heels of “Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe),” a “simplistic yet captivating” (NYS Music) track about the choice of being a “bullshitter” vs. being an “honest person.” News Whistlecalls the track a “tympanic tingler.” Vivid’s newest single/video “Trainers” is a song about the blessing of second chances and starting anew when something isn’t working out the way you want it to. The track is also named after the video game term for cheat mode. When talking about the “Trainers” videoFlaunt declares Vivid is a “shapeshifter and a hip shaker with a mind moving in multi-colored frames per second.” TREMG Magsays the track is a “fun feel-good anthem that would fit perfectly on your weekend playlist while making you feel like you’re back at the roller rinks or arcades of your childhood.”
Serving as a precursor to his upcoming record release show on November 13th at Brooklyn, NY’s All Night Skate (54 Rockaway Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11233), Vivid filmed the “Trainers” video in a blackout room in Queens, NY as a tribute to the classic-style performance video after not having been on stage in a year and a half due to Covid and he emphasis how even though there was no audience, he “went for it as if there were.” The video was inspired by old Beat-Club TV shows from the early 1970s where bands performed in front of a blue screen.
Vivid’s upcoming fourth album titled No More Secrets is based on themes revolving around the loss of both of his parents in recent years and the life lessons he’s learned from what he calls “intensive meditative pandemic soul searching.” Flaunt adds No More Secrets,“opens a door to escape the norm, incessant worries, and go someplace new,” while American Songwriter says the album“[spins] around 1970s disco and funk, and [is] set around Vivid’s panache of falsetto.” Not beholden to any trends, Vivid states, “I think I’ve found a way to fuse everything I love about ‘60s psychedelic funk, ‘70s glam rock, ‘80s new wave, and ‘90s hip hop into my own voice. I’ve had friends tell me this is my best album, and others tell me they don’t get it at all, but that it definitely sounds like me. I can appreciate that.” So Sally Plays lauds, “New York’s indie electronic multi-instrumentalist artist Nick Vivid is all about that sweet, sweet funk, deliverance and worship, enthusiasm on tap. Vivid by name, Vivid by nature.”
While Vivid is a front man/solo musician/song and dance man, he is also a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, drums, keys) as well as engineer and producer – an all-encompassing artist. Introduced to soul and blues music that bleeds through his music, Vivid was raised in Buffalo, NY by a radio DJ father and a glam rock-loving mother whose musical tastes shaped his musical output. Eventually moving to NYC to work with Bill Aucoin (original manager of KISS and Billy Idol), Vivid released a handful of earlier albums: Watch It Fly (April 2016), Nicksploitation (October 2017) and May 2019’s Blissed Out.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2021 (New York, NY) — “My last album kicked off with a song where the sentiment was that the idea of having to start over was a curse,” says NYC solo artist and showman Nick Vivid about his new single, “Trainers,” out today from his upcoming LP No More Secrets (release date: November 12, 2021 via MegaPlatinum Records). “On my upcoming album starting over is a choice – one that I’m grateful to have. The title of my next single ‘Trainers’ is taken from the video game term for cheat mode.”
Musing about applying “cheat mode” to Real Life, Vivid wishes it could be used to figure out life’s dilemmas in order to get things right. “I feel like once we define ourselves and what our lives are about, we don’t allow ourselves to change,” he says. “I have a choice every day when I wake up to define who I am, whether I realize it or not. If I decide to change some aspect of my life – to start over as it were – then that might lead to something positive.”
“Sonically, ‘Trainers’ was the first song I wrote for the new album that I knew would make the final cut. When I stumbled upon the riff, it was that lightbulb moment. ‘OK, this is gonna be the vibe of the album.‘” The funk swagger that threads its way throughout the No Secrets album started with the first single “Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe)” (out now) and continues through the dance vibe of “Trainers.”
Created within an 8-Bit environment, the accompanying “Trainers” lyric video includes code written by Nick himself. “I like to mess around with these old machines, and if I can incorporate computer hacking into my music videos, even better,” he explains.
While Nick is a front man/solo musician/song and dance man, he is also a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, drums, keys) as well as engineer and producer – an all-encompassing artist. Introduced to soul and blues music that bleeds through his music, Nick was raised in Buffalo, NY to a radio DJ father and a glam rock-loving mother whose musical tastes shaped his musical output. Eventually moving to NYC to work with Bill Aucoin (original manager of KISS and Billy Idol), Nick released a handful of earlier albums but based his new album No More Secrets on themes revolving around the loss of both of his parents in recent years and the life lessons he’s learned from what he calls “intensive meditative pandemic soul searching.”

I’ve had friends tell me this is my best album, and others tell me they don’t get it at all, but that it definitely sounds like me. I can appreciate that.”
Nick’s live concerts are a visual extension of his sonic palette, style and vibe, incorporating synchronized video and light effects working in time with his edgy dance moves and falsetto vocals reminiscent of Prince and Pharrell.

AUGUST 18, 2021 (New York, NY) — “You can’t bullshit a bullshitter and I’m the greatest of them all. Are you gonna be corrupt or are you gonna be honest? You can’t be both at the same time, though many people would like to be one and have you believe they are the other,” says NYC-based indie electronic funk artist Nick Vivid about his new single “Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe)”, out today from his upcoming LP No More Secrets (release date: November 12, 2021 via MegaPlatinum Records). The record release party for No More Secrets will take place at Brooklyn’s All Night Skate (54 Rockaway Ave Brooklyn, NY 11233) on November 13.
As the new single is about choices, Nick has learned much from observing people making decisions based on self-serving fear and greed. He adds, “I have to make choices about who I am gonna be and what I’m gonna be about… and live with the consequence of those choices. The ‘bribe’ in the song is the alluring ‘shortcut’ to the fake ‘easier’ solution. But for me, that doesn’t work. I’ve tried.”
While Nick is a front man/solo musician/song and dance man, he is also a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, drums, keys) as well as an engineer and producer – an all-encompassing artist. He explains, “I wrote the first half of the main riff of ‘Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe)’ on the Fender Rhodes on a Monday, the second half of the riff the next day, and two days after that had the chorus riff. They fit together just right.”
A near collision with a bicyclist informed the “Hush Money (Straight to the Bribe)” vocals (“apparently he didn’t like how close my van was to the bike lane”). Nick recorded the vocals the day after the incident and explained, “I don’t like being in an angry headspace, but it was probably necessary for this song in retrospect.”
About laying the “Hush Money” lyrics over the video of his younger self playing drums, Nick reflects, “It seemed like my future self was giving my six-year-old self an ominous warning about my future. ‘Hey kid, you have no idea what you are in for.’ It had a power and weight that I didn’t think it would have until I saw the finished product, which is nice. I’m glad that happened.”
Introduced to soul and blues music that bleeds through his music, Vivid was raised in Buffalo, NY to a radio DJ father and a glam rock-loving mother whose musical tastes shaped his musical output. Eventually moving to NYC to work with Bill Aucoin (original manager of KISS and Billy Idol), Nick released a handful of earlier albums but based his new album No More Secrets on themes revolving around the loss of both of his parents in recent years and the life lessons he’s learned from what he calls “intensive meditative pandemic soul searching.” The melodic soulful “I Wanna Reign Again” was a commentary on the pandemic in time to a killer wah wah beat. The dance funk track “Trainers” was the first song Nick wrote for the new LP that he knew would make the final cut. “It was that lightbulb moment. OK, this is gonna be the vibe of the album,” he said of the track upon completion. The lo-fi synth vibe of “Blackmail” sets the atmosphere for threats never becoming true. Nick adds, “Take what you want from me, you’ll never get my soul and my spirit. Good luck to ya.”
Not beholden to any trends, Nick states, “I think I’ve found a way to fuse everything I love about ‘60s psychedelic funk, ‘70s glam rock, ‘80s new wave, and ‘90s hip hop into my own voice. I’ve had friends tell me this is my best album, and others tell me they don’t get it at all, but that it definitely sounds like me. I can appreciate that.”

“I’m at my happiest when I just live my life and don’t bother worrying what anyone else is up to,” says NYC musical artist Nick Vivid. Such sentiment mirrors the title of Nick’s new solo album, Blissed Out.
The 9 track effort weaves 1960s soul and funk, 1970s psychedelic glam rock, 1980s synth disco, and 1990s boom bap into a cohesive blend of hi-fi and lo-fi flavors. “I have no idea if my aesthetic is considered chillwave, or vaporwave, or whatever. I just like the sound.”
With song titles such as “I Get Free” and “Pure Dynamite,” Vivid waxes philosophical on his belief in personal freedom and empowerment. Other songs, such as the energizing “Ricochet” and the funky “It’s Alright, Goodbye,” feature lyrics that proclaim optimism in the face of challenges. “The world may always seem to be falling apart, but there’s still room for a moment of triumph,” Nick says. “This record is all about celebrating the small victories. Sometimes they’re all we’ve got.”
Utilizing analog tape and a mix of modern and vintage gear, Blissed Out has a warm organic vibe that further emphasizes the intentions behind the album’s title. “This is a full piece of art that has an experience quality to it,” Nick says. “The idea is to have a record that not only sounds great, but also feels great to listen to.” He adds, “That, and badass cover art.”
Blissed Out is available worldwide digitally and on cassette, CD and vinyl formats on May 17, 2019 on NYC’s MegaPlatinum Records.
Review:
“Nick Vivid might just be New York City’s most exciting and experimental underground artist, mixing exploratory, acid-rock wildness with gut-punch dance and electronic sounds. Listening to Blissed Out is a brain-twisting, heart-pumping experience—one minute you’re floating through the clouds in a psychedelic haze and the next you’re brought down to earth and hooked into the sounds and rhythms of the New York City streets, with electronic beats and rhythms firing your synapses. Much like the album title itself, Blissed Out will leave you in a wholly ecstatic state.” – Richard Bienstock, Editor, Guitar World Magazine
MegaPlatinum Records, in association with Cockroach Media, announce the release of Nick Vivid’s new album, Nicksploitation!
“This album is for people who like their pop music sunny and dark at the same time,” says NYC musical artist Nick Vivid. Indeed. Nicksploitation, his new eight-song album, harnesses its strengths through Vivid’s twisted sense of humor and bemusement at the paradoxes of life. “I’m celebrating my personality on this record. I wanted people to get to know me by letting them in on how messed up my thoughts are.”
With songs that range from the funk-synthwave-inspired “Belly Rub” (which is literally about giving puppies belly rubs) to the reactionary 90s hip-hop sound of “Empire State of Mind Part IV,” which proudly champions New York City’s reputation as a place where there’s “a million ways to die,” Nicksploitation runs a gamut of vibes from light sensibility to dire social commentary. But, Vivid cautions, “There’s no message here. I don’t care about politics and I don’t intend to make political records. I just want to cause a booty-shaking epidemic worldwide.”
Nicksploitation is available in all the usual and unusual places on October 6, 2017
Nick Vivid has released a new mixtape, made for Electrowaves, Italy’s premier weekly Electronic music show. “They asked me if I was into the idea, and I said ‘Sure, sounds fun.’, says Nick Vivid. “I have tons of music in development. Some of it makes the albums, some doesn’t fit for whatever reason. But I had a solid handful of ideas that seemed perfect for this project, so I put it all together within a few weeks.”
The “Electrowaves Radio Broadcast” Mixtape is now available for download at nickvivid.com
