Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs 15 Oct 9:00 PM (6 days ago)

It's crock pot season and here is a new, savory dish for you.
My Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are flavorful and fun!

A collage of French Onion Meatballs photos near a white crock pot.

I thought it was high time I shared a new crock pot recipe for you guys. It is October, we are in the thick of the Fall season, so it just seemed right.

Over the years I've share so many good ones with you, both savory and sweet. Here are your favorites!

Best Ever Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Crock Pot Chocolate Pecan Cobbler
Crock Pot Maid-Rites
3 Step Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes
Crock Pot Mac and Cheese
Sweet Mexican Pork Burrito Bowls

A hand holding a meatball over a kitchen sink.

I've found after almost 16 years of food blogging that kids love meatballs. It's always a dinner favorite. Whether it be something very traditional like spaghetti and meatballs or a fun holiday appetizer they can pick up with a toothpick, they always disappear fast.

The key to these meatballs turning out stellar are browning them quickly (just a sear on all sides) before placing them in the crockpot. This helps to hold them together and also locks in all the flavors.

A white crock pot filled with browned meatballs.

To make these "French Onion" style they finishing cooking on LOW in the crock pot for a few hours covered in onion soup. This keeps them tender and moist.

Can I say the aroma also is mouthwatering??

Once dinner is ready make a batch of mashed potatoes to serve them with - trust me on this! They are incredible sitting on top of the buttery potatoes with some of that extra gravy poured on top.

A blue rimmed white plate with mashed potatoes, meatballs and gravy.

This makes the PERFECT cozy dinner. Add some green beans to the side, or perhaps a salad and dinner is done!

My kids devoured it. I even enjoyed the small amount of leftovers we had for lunch the next day. This will be on our dinner rotation from here on out.

Who is ready to make meatballs??

I'd love to see your photos, be sure to tag me (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll share your photos. Get ready for rave reviews on this one!

12 Cozy Casserole Recipes 8 Oct 9:00 PM (13 days ago)

We are in prime casserole dish season, which also makes it cozy season!
Here are 12 easy dishes to cure those casserole blues.

Photos of casserole dishes, 12 Cozy Casseroles

It's my favorite time of year - time for chilly mornings with a hot cup of coffee, nights snuggled under a warm blanket watching a movie or game and days of wearing hooded sweatshirts while throwing together a delicious casserole for dinner.

I've always loved a good casserole!

Everything you need to fulfill a meal it's in there - carbs, veggies, protein. All there!

I've gathered 12 of my family's favorites, ones that you readers have also enjoyed over the years. Some with chicken, some with beef, some with pasta, many with vegetables and some that are even fairly healthy!

Here we go.

Browse this list and pick one that looks tasty for dinner soon.

A photo of baked white spaghetti in a white casserole dish.

Baked White Spaghetti - I like this one because it is not your typical red sauce baked spaghetti, instead it has a creamy white sauce. Add in chicken and sauteed mushrooms and it's a delightful dish.

Oven Baked Hawaiian Chicken - this one was always a favorite when my kids were little, I think it's the sweet pineapple and ham that makes it fun. Easy to assemble and bake on busy nights!

Taco Pie - go ahead and change up your taco night routine and make this savory pie! Layered with dough, taco meat and cheese it gets baked until bubbly and topped with lettuce and chopped tomatoes.

A photo of baked florentine spaghetti on a while dinner plate.

Baked Florentine Spaghetti - again, spaghetti doesn't have to be boring! This one is full of fresh spinach, tomatoes, ground sausage and multiple cheeses.

Cheesy Alfredo Chicken Rice Casserole - my family loves any dish with rice in it, plus this one has alfredo sauce! Another crowd favorite. Add in any veggie you like, but we prefer broccoli.

Sausage Tortellini Bake - would you believe if I said there are only six ingredients in this one, but together they are just perfect? It's cheesy and saucy and goes great with a side salad and garlic bread.

A plate of party chicken bubble bake on a white dinner plate.

Party Chicken Bubble Bake - another six ingredient dish! This one has tender biscuits, chicken, a tangy sour cream dip in the mix, plus cheese. Everything baked together is FUN.

Ham & Swiss Baked Penne - if you love any ham and Swiss combo, this one is for you. A simple roux makes a creamy sauce that gets baked with penne noodles, cheeses and ham, then topped with a crunchy topping.

Chicken Tetrazzini - crispy bacon, sweet peas, tender chicken, mushrooms, it's all in this one. Everything is baked up and served warm.

A white plate with Dorito chicken casserole on it with a fork.

Cheesy Mexican Dorito Chicken - if you love a good taco salad, you'll enjoy this one, as it's essentially the same thing but in baked form. Top with with shredded lettuce, salsa, sour cream and guacamole.

Buffalo Tater Tot Casserole - this one is definitely not like a traditional tater tot casserole, but the tater tots are still there! All buffalo chicken fans will love the filling underneath.

Million Dollar Casserole - this was the #1 recipe on my website for YEARS. And for good reason! I always like making this one for a friend in need or a new baby mama.

Triple Chocolate Bundt Cake 1 Oct 9:00 PM (20 days ago)

This triple chocolate bundt cake is rich, indulgent and just heavenly.

Make for a birthday or a special night in – it will get devoured!

This post is sponsored by AE Dairy, but all opinions are my own.

A collage of triple chocolate cake photos on a white plate and on a cooling rack.

I’ve always said if you’re going to eat a slice of chocolate cake you might as well go all out. Make sure it is a great cake, make it homemade, add gobs of chocolate, make it so rich that you MUST have a glass of cold milk nearby.

This, my friends, is what I did for you all today!

My new Triple Chocolate Bundt Cake is one for the books. It’s pretty in a bundt pan and so delicious you’ll be dreaming about another slice.

A stand mixer with chocolate cake batter next to AE Dairy chocolate milk and a cup of milk chocolate chips.

I love this cake batter as part of the “triple” effect comes from AE Dairy chocolate milk!

Right into the batter it goes, giving it another layer of chocolate greatness. The simple swap of normally using regular white milk to AE Dairy’s 2% reduced fat chocolate milk gives the cake even more chocolate flavor.

The other two chocolate factors come for a deep, rich cocoa powder and milk chocolate chips. With both in the batter it gives it a deep, chocolate flavor.

A chocolate bundt cake on a cooling rack next to AE Dairy chocolate milk.

I continue to partner with AE Dairy because I (and you guys!) love their wholesome Midwestern products. Their chocolate milk was named one of the most “missed products” by people who have moved away from Iowa. That is saying something!

I’ve used their chocolate milk in other dishes too – remember my Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake? Or my more recent Healthier Protein Packed Dirt Cups? Both are fun ways to incorporate chocolate milk into dishes.

A slice of chocolate bundt cake on a white plate next to the cake on the cooling rack.

And I’ve always liked baking bundt cakes. They come out pretty, slice up beautifully and feed a crowd. They do still give me that “panic moment” when inverting onto a plate and praying it comes out….but little blemishes mean the cake was made with love and it’s nothing some powdered sugar or chocolate glaze can’t cover up.

Mine wasn’t perfect and that’s okay!

I’ve never claimed to be a professional baker. They won’t always look the prettiest, but they sure will taste good.

A closeup of chocolate bundt cake on a white plate in front of a jug of AE Dairy chocolate milk.

I cannot wait to see you guys bake this cake! It’s great for birthdays, anniversaries or Sunday family dinners.

Be sure to tag myself (@sweetsavoryeats) and AE Dairy (@aedairy), snap a photo and we’ll be sure to share them.

Chocolate cake lovers rejoice!

Pumpkin Spice Baked Donuts 24 Sep 9:00 PM (27 days ago)

These easy baked donuts are Fall inspired and full of pumpkin spice!
Start to finish done in under 30 minutes.

A collage of pumpkin spice donuts on a wire rack.

I first introduced these donuts back in 2012. Well over 10 years ago, can you believe that? Can you believe this food blog has been going for so long?

Well, it has!

It never ceases to amaze me that you guys still keep coming back for my recipes. Thank you! And today, now that Fall has arrived it's donut time. This pumpkin spice version coated in cinnamon and sugar is so, so good.

A donut pan next to a bowl of donut ingredients and a can of pumpkin.

You will need a donut pan for this recipe (although readers have told me they've made these as "mini muffins" and it works).

Here is the pan I use - but there are a TON of them out there. This recipe makes 1 dozen donuts, so a 6 count or 12 count donut pan work great.

Start to finish these donuts are hot and fresh in under 30 minutes. This recipe could not be easier.

A tray of baked pumpkin donuts next to a white bowl of cinnamon and sugar and a wire cooling rack.

The dry ingredients are mixed with pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, eggs, milk and OF COURSE canned pumpkin. You spoon the batter into the greased donut pan and bake for just 10 minutes.

Then almost immediately (give them a minute to cool a bit) you dredge the hot donuts into the cinnamon and sugar and place on a cooling rack to wait to be devoured.

A pyramid stack of pumpkin spice donuts on a wire cooling rack.

I highly recommend eating these donuts warm and fresh. They are simple the BEST that way. Warm, buttery, coated in sugar.....very hard to resist.

And yes they make a dozen, so delivering a few of the extras to a neighbor or friend is always a good idea! They'll love you.

Are you ready to make these?

Great for Fall parties, lazy weekend breakfasts, special brunches or a special birthday. If you make them tag me (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll be sure to share your photos.

Sweet Potato Apple Butter Muffins 17 Sep 9:00 PM (last month)

These tender muffins scream autumn and fall spices.
They pair perfectly with coffee and a light weekend breakfast!

A collage of muffin photos next to apple butter.

I think my kids ask for me to bake muffins every single weekend. Every single weekend! They have always been a favorite and over the years I have gotten very creative showcasing multiple varieties.

Here are some of the top ones.

Cranberry Egg Nog Muffins
White Chocolate Raspberry Bakery Muffins
Cake Mix Pumpkin Streusel Muffins
Triple Berry Sour Cream Muffins
Double Chocolate Banana Muffins

A stainless steel bowl of dry ingredients sitting next to a jar of sweet potato puree and spices.

You can blame this recipe on the leftover sweet potato I had sitting in the fridge and some remaining homemade apple butter in a jar sitting next to it. I immediately looked at the both of them and knew they were a perfect match.

Nothing screams a fun fall recipe more than root vegetables and spiced apple butter. I blitzed them together in my mini blender (a food processor works just fine too) and together it made the most incredible ingredient to add to this muffin batter.

A sweet potato apple butter muffin on a white plate with a blue rim, cut in half with butter.

The batter is simple - flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs....and of course the sweet potato puree and apple butter.

PLUS, I made it even better by topping them with a crunchy streusel on top before baking. That crunchy bite puts them over the top!

A collage of sweet potato apple butter muffins

Bake these up for your family or for a crowd. I promise they will disappear quickly! Tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) with your photos and I'll be sure to share them.

Happy Fall Y'all!

Harvest Veggie Bowls (with a sour cream herb sauce) 10 Sep 9:00 PM (last month)

Fall produce is abundant and these Harvest Veggie Bowls with a sour cream herb sauce are my new favorite!

This post is sponsored by AE Dairy, but all opinions are my own.

A collage of photos of root vegetables on a sheet pan try with an herbed cream sauce.

The best time of year is here (in my opinion!) which means great Fall produce – squash, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, pumpkins – everything orange, brown and green!

My friends at AE Dairy, along with myself, wanted to showcase these veggies and then put a fun spin on them with a sauce made from their sour cream.

Can I just say this veggie dish is incredible?

An aerial shot of ingredients for a sour cream herbed cream sauce on a wooden cutting board.

AE Diary’s sour cream is made from the freshest cream from Iowa family farms. It is delightfully thick, tangy and creamy.

The sour cream added with a bit of yogurt, fresh herbs, Dijon mustard, spices, oil and lemon juice makes the BEST creamy herb sauce to drizzle over the roasted harvest veggies.

Make this a side dish or a meal in itself!

Roasted harvest veggies on a sheet pan next to a glass jar of sour cream herbed sauce.

As for the veggies, you can choose anything you enjoy. I used sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, and butternut squash, about a cup of each. Carrots would be great too!

Grab a big, rimmed baking sheet with rimmed edges. The pan I use is 11x17 inches. With ample room the veggies get the chance to “roast” without touching each other, verses “steaming” if they are too close together.

A simple drizzle of avocado oil, salt and pepper is all you need!

Harvest Veggies on a grew plate with a drizzle of sour cream herbed sauce, next to a sheet pan of veggies and container of sour cream.

This dish is a great one to make on chilly nights, maybe when you have put a pork or beef roast in the crockpot to cook all day, or maybe when you are just craving some good veggies!

The tangy, herby cream sauce is just icing on the cake. It adds a depth of flavor and a punch of fun!

A collage of harvest veggies in a grew bowl and on a sheet pan with a sour cream herbed sauce.

Put this Harvest Veggie Bowl on your dinner rotation STAT. It’s a terrific addition to any Fall dinner. Use what vegetables are in season and enjoy the flavors.

Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole 3 Sep 9:00 PM (last month)

Here’s a fun new tater tot casserole idea! It combines all the tastes of your favorite buffalo chicken flavors. Great for dinner or tailgating!

This post is sponsored by Cookies BBQ Sauce & Seasonings, but all opinions are my own.

A 9x13 baking dish of buffalo chicken tater tot casserole

If you’ve been a follower of mine for any amount of time you know I’ve always loved a buffalo sauce in addition to any meal, dip or appetizer.

Over the years I’ve made so many! Remember the stuffed shells I created last year? Or the tostadas that we love for simple lunches? Or perhaps you love the new high protein, healthier buffalo chicken dip I made over this past Summer?

All of them are great. All of them have that tangy, vinegar-y, spice kick that’s fun and flavorful.

A hand holding a bottle of Cookies Wing Sauce.

I’m continuing my series with Cookies this year and being it Fall, which includes not only tailgating season, but also back to school season, together we wanted to create a dish that would be good for both.

My new Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole can be put together for a quick mid-week dinner, OR it can be baked off and taken to the big game wrapped up to be kept warm on the tailgating food table.

A bag of tater tots spilled onto a wooden cutting board, next to a bottle of buffalo sauce and a casserole dish.

Everyone knows the traditional and classic tater tot casserole version – ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, cheese, any green vegetable topped with tater tots and baked until bubbly.

This new buffalo version is essentially prepped the same way but with different ingredients – chicken, cream of chicken soup, ranch dressing, cheeses, buffalo sauce, seasonings and of course, tater tots!

A pan lined with tater tots next to a bottle of buffalo wing sauce.

Cookies Wings-n-Things Hot Sauce has the perfect blend of cayenne pepper juice, vinegar, butter, garlic and more. I love how it’s thick and creamy and just hot enough to give food a kick, but nothing that is overwhelming.

You can find all Cookies products HERE – check them out!

Everything from sweet or spicy barbecue sauce to flavor enhancer seasoning….even taco sauce and salsa. Their products have been on store shelves for over 50 years!

A close up of buffalo chicken tater tot casserole on a white plate drizzled with ranch dressing.

This casserole was a big HIT at our house. Something different and fun! The chicken combined with the soup, cheeses and seasonings makes for a creamy base layer. And those crispy tater tots on top?

Perfection.

Drizzle with a bit more extra ranch dressing before serving and watch it get devoured.

After you make this, snap a photo and be sure to tag myself (@sweetsavoryeats) and Cookies (@cookiesbbqsauce) on socials and we’ll be sure to share your creations.

Crock Pot Apple Butter 27 Aug 9:00 PM (last month)

The smells of Fall are arriving!
Be sure to try my homemade apple butter when you have a bunch of apples on hand.

A collage of apple butter photos on a plate with yogurt and in a mason jar.

I first introduced this homemade crock pot apple butter to my readers over 10 years ago. Yes, I'm that old time food blogger!

At that time I was knee deep in babies and toddlers and quite honestly I'm not sure how I did it all, but I do remember utilizing nap time to my full advantage, so I'm imagining I peeled and sliced apples while the house was quiet.

Peeled apples and skins on a wooden cutting board.

A friend brought me a bag of apples from her apple tree last week - she told me they were pretty tart (more of a baking apple) - so I knew instantly I'd make a batch of my apple butter.

And looking at the old recipe post I knew it needed to be updated, so here we are!

You'll need 10-12 apples for this recipe. Mine were a good size (if smaller, add in a few more, this recipe is forgiving). Put on some music and get peeling!

A crock pot filled with apple slices coated in sugar and spices.

The instant these apples start to cook your house will smell amazing. Each kid who walked in the door that day mentioned it. It's like having a homemade apple cinnamon candle burning on your countertop.

It really is a set it and forget recipe, one that cooks down all day and requires no work from you.

A spoonful of apple butter with a plate and jar of it in the background.

Look at that beautiful color!

The apples cook down into a rich, dark and flavorful sauce. You can certainly leave the apple butter a bit chunky when it's done (it's all your preference), but I prefer blending it until it's nice and smooth.

Grab your blender, food processor or immersion blender and it takes just a few minutes to blend it up. Ladle the apple butter into jars and it will last in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

A collage of apple butter photos

Now, you are probably thinking what do I put apple butter on?

The answer is SO much!

We love it swirled into yogurt, spooned over vanilla ice cream, spread on toast or English muffins, stirred into hot oatmeal....and these are just a few ideas. Tell me yours!

I'd love to see you tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) when you make this, so start peeling!

5 Ingredient Cajun Ziti 20 Aug 9:00 PM (2 months ago)

Who doesn't love a 5 ingredient dinner?
This creamy Cajun ziti comes together in just 30 minutes.

A collage of cajun ziti photos, a skillet with cream sauce, creole seasoning all sitting on a wooden cutting board.

If your kids aren't back in school yet, they will be soon - which means easy, simple dinners need to be served. It's a crazy busy time of year!

Don't have kids? This dinner still works for you. We all have jam packed schedules.

Fareway Stores and I came up with my new 5 Ingredient Cajun Ziti in an effort to ease the pain of dinner boredom + so all us caregivers have another simple dinner to put into our rotation when you are crunched on time.

Ingredients for Cajun Ziti spread out on a wooden cutting board.

This is ALL you will need:

  • Chicken
  • Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Pasta
  • Creole seasoning

And of course a skillet to bring the sauce together, a pot to boil the noodles in and (if you choose) an air fryer to quickly cook the chicken. You certainly don't need an air fryer for that, but I have found it's easy, cooks each piece evenly and locks in the juicy flavor. But of course, cooking the chicken in a skillet is fine too!

A white skillet on a cutting board with pasta, chicken, Parm.

I love this simple dinner because it is so darn quick. Plus - it has a TON of flavor. If you are a cream sauce fan, you need to try this one. It's rich (without any butter!) and creamy, has the strong nutty zest of Parmesan cheese, plus the creole seasoning gives it just a little bit of zip.

Nothing crazy though - it's not a spicy dish, just flavorful!

And here I used chicken, but of course you can sub in any protein - steak, shrimp, salmon, whatever you have on hand and whatever your family prefers. After making this, I also thought stirring in some sauteed peppers would be nice, even fresh peas!

A bowl of Cajun Zity next to a container of Creole seasoning.

Doesn't this make you want to grab a fork and dig right in?

This recipe will serve 4 to 6, depending on how hungry your crew is (if you have teenagers you might want to think about doubling it).

Right now mine are 16, 14 and 11.

They devoured this!

A collage of Cajun Ziti photos in a skillet and in a bowl.

I'm looking forward to seeing you plate this up at your house!

Be sure to tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) so I can see your version.

Peach Blender Salsa 13 Aug 9:00 PM (2 months ago)

This fun, slightly sweet salsa is easy + it's a great way to use up those juicy peaches.
Make a quick bowl soon, you won't regret it.

Fresh peaches next to a white bowl of peach salsa.

While on a walk last week I came upon the most beautiful peach tree in an empty lot just loaded with gorgeous, juicy peaches. I'm not sure how I had not noticed this tree before as I'm fairly certain I've walked by it many times.

It immediately reminded me of my parents old peach tree - my Dad would often have great peach years where he'd have to use ladders to hold up the heavy branches loaded with peaches.

When I got home I could not stop thinking about this tree, I just didn't want these peaches to go to waste....so I asked a friend who lived across the street and called another friend who works for the city to see if anyone local takes care of this empty lot. As it turns out an investment company 30 miles away has owned the lot for years - both friends said, "pick the peaches".

Didn't have to tell me twice!

Fresh peaches and cilantro sitting next to a blender on a wooden cutting board.

So I dragged my teen daughter (she was thrilled) over to the lot the next day and we picked two huge shopping bags full of peaches. There were still plenty left for my friend, but I made sure to grab the ones about to fall off right onto the sidewalk.

I've learned to love a great peach over the years - here are few of the popular recipes I've created.

Peach Quick Bread
Cast Iron Skillet Peach Cobbler
Glazed Peach Tart
Peach Crumble Bars

Today, I thought I'd head a bit more savory, with my new Peach Blender Salsa.

A white bowl of peach salsa on a blue rimmed plate.

If you've been around here for awhile, you know I love the ease and simplicity of a fresh blender salsa. You can find my original version HERE + a fun pineapple version HERE

All of the them have the fresh flavors of a great Mexican restaurant salsa, plus they all come together in about 5 minutes. No canning required!

I've found anytime I make any of these salsas the family is very happy.

A bowl of peach salsa sitting next to sliced fresh peaches and tortilla chips.

If you have someone in your family that isn't a fan of hot or spicy salsas, this is the one to try on them. My teen son GOBBLED it down. He's not a fan of too much spice and this one was perfect for him.

The peaches make it 'just sweet enough', but it's not overpowering. In fact, if you feed this salsa to any unknowing participant they may say....'what's in this salsa'?

The peaches are definitely there, but if you don't know it prior to eating you may not be able to pinpoint what that sweet taste actually is.

A collage of photos of peach blender salsa.

This one is so fun!

I'd love to see you create it for your family. Be sure to tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) so I can see your photos. And be ready to make a double batch the next time, it goes fast.

Healthier Protein Packed Dirt Cups 6 Aug 9:00 PM (2 months ago)

The protein gets amped up in this healthier version of a dirt cup.

Still great taste, but less guilt!

This post is sponsored by AE Dairy, but all opinions are my own.

AE Dairy Hi Protein chocolate milk next to pudding dirt cups.

Every kid in America has seen or had a “dirt cup” at some point in their life. Fun to make and fun for kids to eat! They often make the party circuits as Moms know they’ll be devoured. What kid doesn’t want to pretend they are eating dirt and worms?

When AE Dairy and I started brainstorming a recipe for their newly unveiled Hi Protein Chocolate Milk, a pudding cup of some sort was at the top of the list.

A bowl of chocolate pudding in a stainless teel bowl sitting next to a jug of chocolate milk.

This new milk has a whooping 20 grams of protein in just one cup, 220 calories and 560 milligrams of calcium.

As a parent of athletes, I was immediately invested. I’ll often grab regular chocolate milk to have on hand as a recovery drink post workouts – but with AE Dairy’s new Hi Protein Chocolate Milk the protein jumps from 8 grams to 20 grams.

And can we talk about the taste? MY KIDS GUZZLED IT DOWN. I literally had to take the carton away from them. I was worried I wouldn’t have enough on hand to make this fun new recipe!

AE Dairy Hi Protein chocolate milk sitting next to dirt cups on a wooden cutting board.

Now while chocolate milk is often fun by itself, we wanted a way to make it even more fun for kids.

These dirt cups taste decadent and creamy, but what the kids don’t know is that they are also protein packed! In addition to the Hi Protein Chocolate Milk, the pudding mixture also has plain Greek yogurt in the mix. The combo of the pudding, milk, yogurt and whipped topping makes for the fluffiest fluff you ever did have.

And of course – crushed chocolate cookies and gummy worms always help to make it fun – although you are welcome to leave those out if you want them a bit more adult friendly.

A hand holding a chocolate pudding dirt cup

I did let my kids lick the mixing bowl, but then after assembling the cups and putting these in the fridge I had to also put a “do not eat” sign next to them.

Living in my house is hard at times.

These are the perfect Summertime treat for kids. They come together in just a few minutes and can keep in the fridge until they are ready for a sweet treat.

A collage of hi protein chocolate milk and pudding dirt cups sitting on a wooden cutting board.

You can view an AE Dairy product locator HERE. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this new milk too!

And when you make these dirt cups be sure to tag both myself (@sweetsavoryeats) and AE Dairy (@aedairy) in the photos so we can see them. You never know, we might share them on our social media pages!

Crispy Rice Cucumber Salad 23 Jul 9:00 PM (3 months ago)

I love finding new ways to use up garden cucumbers in salads.
This one has Asian flavors in a creamy dressing - it's a fun one!

A bowl of cucumbers and crispy rice with dressing.

Remember last Summer when I made and posted my (Viral) Asian Cucumber Salad? You guys loved it. Honestly my teen daughter helped me create it and still often eats it now!

For whatever reason I still love finding ways to use up cucumbers in fun ways (they are plentiful in the warm Summer months) and I recently created another one. Unlike the last one, this one has a creamy dressing + a crunchy surprise!

Sliced cucumbers, cooked rice and dressing in a measuring cup on a cutting board.

Recently, a trend I've been seeing is to crisp up cooked rice in the oven with oil and spices and then crumbling up the finished product into salads. The result is both a crispy and crunchy addition to any kind of side dish.

Fun? YES!

Kind of different? That too!

But who doesn't love any salad with a little bit of a crunch?

A stainless steel bowl with crunchy rice, sliced cucumbers and dressing.

A few simple pantry ingredients bring this salad together - soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, avocado oil, mayo, honey and a bit out of a jar of my favorite and fun chili crisp oil. You can find chili crisp oil at all grocery stores in the Asian aisle or you can order a jar HERE.

A little goes a long way and one jar will last you a long while! It has some heat to it, but when using a little it just gives any dish great flavor.

Chopsticks holding a bit of crispy rice cucumber salad.

This salad is served best right away - the cold, crispy cucumbers and chewy and crispy rice pair beautifully with the creamy Asian dressing.

You can be like my family and all stand around the kitchen island eating it straight out of the bowl.....or you can serve it alongside a main dish. It would be great with any grilled chicken or fish!

A collage of photos of crispy rice cucumber salad with dressing.

This one is so fun!

Be sure to try it out and share your photos with me. Tag me on Instagram (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll be sure to share your photos with my followers.

O'Henry Bars 16 Jul 9:00 PM (3 months ago)

These O'Henry Bars mimic the classic candy bar with their chewy peanut butter texture and chocolate topping. A real sweet treat!

ohenry bars

I first made these O'Henry Bars waaaaaaay back in 2012. I barely had two kids then! And as with many of my old recipes sometimes they get forgotten and lost in the recipe shuffle.

But today, I've brought these back!

The original Oh Henry! candy bar (spelled a bit different than mine - you'll see different versions) was invented in 1920 by Nestle with production eventually stopping in the United States in 2019. A slightly different version still is sold in Canada.

It consisted of a peanut and caramel middle coated by fudgy chocolate.

A baking pan of bars with an oat bottom being spread with a chocolate layer.

My version has an bottom layer of oatmeal, brown sugar, butter, cream cheese and honey that gets pressed into a baking pan and baked until set.

It is then topped with a melted peanut butter and chocolate topping that holds the bars together and becomes that fun fudgy layer.

O'Henry Bars cut into squares on a wooden cutting board.

After you spread on that chocolate layer you put the pan in the fridge so it can "set". Once that chocolate has hardened they are ready to be cut into bars.

This 8x8 pan makes 12 generous bars. They are rich and filling! Feel free to cut them in half again making 24 bars to feed a bigger crowd.

The oat layer is sweet and slightly gooey and the peanut butter and chocolate layer holds it all together.

A bunch of O'Henry Bars cut into squares and one on a white plate with a fork.

These are a special sweet treat!

I like to keep ours in the fridge that way the chocolate layer stays nice and firm (especially if making these in the Summer when it's warm out). They can also be cut into bars and froze to save for a later treat down the road.

Collage of photos of O'Henry Bars

These O'Henry Bars will brink back a bit of nostalgia and are so fun! If you make them be sure to tag me on Instagram (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll be sure to share your photos.

Until then, happy baking!

10 Beachy Summer Reads 9 Jul 9:00 PM (3 months ago)

Right after food, I love reading books. I often get asked for recommendations and I love sharing them. I've decided to put together my Top 10 beachy reads for Summer.
I've read every one of them and think you should too!

10 beachy summer reads (books)

Over the years I've chatted lots and lots of food, but I've also chatted lots and lots of books (especially on Instagram). And for the third Summer in a row my newsletter followers also get access to my Summer Book Club series! It's fun and harmless and people love it.

Recently I've been receiving many requests for Summer book reads, because lets face it - we all look a good beachy romance in the Summer! Nothing beats a book, a cocktail and watching the water lap the shore.

One of my favorite things in the world!

The next 10 books are all ones I've read and adored, so therefore I'm telling you to read them as well. Love a classic love story? A complicated one? A funny one? A very untraditional one? There are all right here. Scroll on through and pick your next read.

One Golden Summer book

One Golden Summer - I'm almost finished with this one and upon the first few chapters knew it had to be put on this list. It pulled me in very quick! If you love lake life, lazy Summers, stories about family generational cabins and chances at love during the quick Summers months then you'll adore this one.

Happy Place book

Happy Place - a couple who broke up 5 months ago pretend to be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends. I mean, what couldn't go wrong? They can't bare to break the news to their friends during vacation so they fake it to the best of their abilities. Do you think it works?

Summer Darlings book

Summer Darlings - filled with 1960's nostalgia, Heddy leaves her Brooklyn neighborhood to nanny for one of Martha's Vineyards wealthiest families. She grows enamored with the life, nurtures a Summer romance, but also finds out that this picture perfect setting does not always equal happiness.

The Paper Palace book

The Paper Palace - Elle, a 50 year old happily married mother of 3 finds herself at the cabin she has spent every Summer of her life - torn between an old childhood love and her husband. You get a glimpse back into their childhood and what really happened and then back to this day where she has to arrive at the ultimate decision that is very complex.

Malibu Rising book

Malibu Rising - set in Malibu in 1983, four famous siblings throw an epic "end of the Summer party" but over the course of 24 hours family drama ensues that will change their life forever. By midnight the party is pure chaos and by early morning their mansion will have gone up in flames.

28 Summers book

28 Summers - this one almost tore my heart out in the end, but is still one of my favorites. Set over the course of 28 years, Mallory and Jake explore the agony and romance of a one-weekend-a-year affair. Both captivating and bittersweet.

One True Loves book

One True Loves - Emma marries her high school sweetheart only to lose him in a helicopter crash on their 1st anniversary. When trying to put her life back together, years later she finds herself falling in love again. That is until her husband is found...alive.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo book

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - what a wild ride this one is! Aging Hollywood icon, Evelyn Hugo, is ready to tell the truth about her glamourous and scandalous life. She asks a reporter to write her story. Told from the beginning in 1950's Los Angeles, you travel with her through relationships, friendships and forbidden love until she starts to get towards the end when her actual life intersects.

The Hating Game book

The Hating Game - now made into a movie, this fun and quirky book is the typical "hate each other, till they love each other" book. Forced to sit by each other and vie for their CEO's attention, Lucy and Josh refuse to back down when they compete for a new job. But as time goes on, things change.

Beach Read book

Beach Read - literally called "Beach Read" I could not, not include this one! Two authors renting neighboring beach houses for three months both bogged down with writer's block, until one evening they strike a deal with each other to force them out of their creative ruts.

Strawberry Banana Cottage Cheese Smoothie Bowl 2 Jul 9:00 PM (3 months ago)

The heat of Summer has arrived, and nothing beats it like a cold treat – or in this case a healthy treat! My new Strawberry Banana Cottage Cheese Smoothie Bowl is perfect for breakfast or a midday snack.

This post is sponsored by AE Dairy, but all opinions are my own.

A strawberry banana cottage cheese smoothie in a grey bowl with fresh fruit and granola.

Everyone loves a cold treat in the dead heat of Summer, but what if you could have a cold treat that is also healthy?

My new smoothie bowl has the added benefits of protein packed AE Dairy cottage cheese, which gives it a smooth, creamy texture – one of my kids even said, “it tastes like a milkshake”!

Honestly, I told them I couldn’t agree more.

Frozen sliced strawberries and bananas on a cookie sheet next to a container of cottage cheese.

AE Dairy and I wanted to show how easy it is to incorporate their cottage cheese into yet another recipe – that makes people go…. wait, does that really work?

Remember I’ve made my Cottage Cheese Berry Cheesecake Bars (also great for Summer) and my Cheesy Spinach Dip (perfect for parties) – both with a base of cottage cheese that literally NO ONE would ever guess.

It’s so fun sneaking it into unexpecting dishes!

A strawberry banana cottage cheese smoothie in a grey bowl topped with fresh fruit and granola.

This smoothie bowl serves one and has 20 grams of protein!

It’s a generous helping that will keep you full until lunch – OR – if you have very hungry teenagers like me, it’s a great mid-afternoon snack for them when they are on the go in between activities.

If you could have been a fly on my wall when I made this – imagine three different spoons digging in for bites after I took the photos and gave them the “all clear”.

A smoothie bowl topped with fresh fruit and granola with a gold spoon next to a container of cottage cheese.

AE Dairy’s Old Fashioned small curd, 4% cottage cheese is considered one of their most beloved products. It’s rich and creamy, made with whole milk and has 12 grams of protein in just one half of a cup.

I decided to go with the classic “strawberry and banana” combination for this smoothie bowl, but honestly any frozen fruit variety can be used. Peaches would also be fabulous!

By using frozen fruit, then you do not have to add any ice to the mix – which helps keeps down the water content and makes for a rich and creamy smoothie.

A collage of smoothie bowl photos topped with fresh fruit and granola.

Feel free to add any fun toppings you like to this – your favorite granola, any type of fruit, peanut butter, chia seeds, nuts, coconut, etc. The options are endless!

Try incorporating this smoothie bowl into your morning routine, we’d love to see your photos. Please tag myself (@sweetsavoryeats) and AE Dairy (@aedairy) and we’ll be sure to share your creations.

10 Cool Dinner Ideas for Hot Summers 25 Jun 9:00 PM (3 months ago)

Not a soul wants to be in the kitchen when the weather turns hot and humid.
These 10 dinner ideas require little prep & cooking, yet are flavorful and fun!

A collage of lighter, cool dinner ideas for when the weather gets warm.

We are smack in the middle of a muggy heat wave here in the Midwest. We get all of the weather extremes - very hot Summers and very cold Winters. When it gets like this most of our cooking drive goes out the window. We just want something easy and cool!

I often get requests this time of year for easy Summer meals that require little to no actual cooking, so I gathered up my 10 favorites.

Everything from salads to sandwiches in this list!

A hand holding a veggie hoagie over a wooden cutting board.

The Ultimate Veggie Hoagie

This sandwich was inspired for all my vegetarian fans out there. A sub roll or baguette is hallowed out, smeared with onion and chive cream cheese, layered with tomatoes and cucumbers and topped with a dressed lettuce slaw. Need a bit more substance? Add crisp bacon!

Strawberry Spinach Salad with Turkey Bacon Dressing

This salad combines all of your favorite sweet and savory flavors. Juicy, ripe strawberries, salty crumbled feta cheese and a homemade warm bacon dressing that gets poured over crisp spinach leaves. Fresh and flavorful.

Reuben Wraps

These are a family favorite - just 5 ingredients (corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, tortillas and thousand island dressing). I like to either give them a quick toast in the air fryer, in a skillet or wrap up with foil for a quick warm up in the oven. These can be taken on the go!

A bowl of egg salad near a piece of bread and a cottage cheese container.

High Protein Cottage Cheese Egg Salad

This easy recipe amps up the protein a bit more in your traditional egg salad by mashing up cottage cheese into the eggs (trust me, you'll never know it's there!). We like our egg salad pretty simple - chopped dill pickles & some of it's juice, salt, pepper, mayo, mustard, etc.

Chinese Chicken Lettuce Cups

Just like your favorite appetizer at PF Chang's, here is my knock off. These can be eaten warm or cold, wrapped in a lettuce leaf. They make a great quick lunch or appetizer.

BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad

This salad has been at the top of the charts! Sweet air fried or grilled chicken tender coated in bbq seasoning and sauce, then chopped into a bowl of romaine, sweet corn, black beans and a honey bbq vinaigrette.

A wooden cutting board topped with chopped chicken slider mix, next to hamburger buns.

Grilled Chicken Caesar Sliders

These fun, cold slider sandwiches are great for the pool! They can be wrapped up and taken on the go. An easy Caesar dressing holds all the ingredients together. Tons of flavor!

Crispy Grilled Cheese Caesar Salad

Make a batch of grilled cheese sandwiches for the family and then chop them up into bite sized pieces for the family on this fun salad! They are like croutons, but better.

Homemade Chicken Salad

Grab a rotisserie chicken from the deli and half the work is already done for this one. My simple chicken salad recipe is always loved by all. We love to eat it with crackers or on croissants.

Baked Caprese Garlic Bread

I love making this one into a meal when my garden tomatoes and basil are bursting out of the garden. Those flavors merry so well together. Toast this one up on the grill or in the air fryer to keep the heat out of the kitchen.

A collage of cool dinner ideas for when Summer gets hot.

Which one are you trying first?

I'd love for you to share which cool dinner idea you are making for your family. Be sure to tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll share your photos!

BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad 18 Jun 9:00 PM (4 months ago)

This new Summer salad is full of flavor and is bound to be on repeat!

Try my new BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad soon.

This post is sponsored by Cookies BBQ Sauce & Seasonings, but all opinions are my own.

BBQ chicken chopped salad on a white dinner plate on a wooden cutting board.

There is no doubt in my mind that we eat more salads in the warmer months. It’s just more fun, right? Produce is fresh and abundant + when we are hot, lighter meals are easier to make and eat.

The problem is salads can very easily be BORING.

But not this one!

My new BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad has everything you want – a flavorful protein, a sweet + salty ingredient combo and lots of juicy, fresh produce.

A bottle of Cookies barbecue sauce on a wooden cutting board next to a mason jar of vinaigrette.

Cookies and I have embarked on a 3-part foodie series and this second installment for Summer is for all my salad lovers!

Remember our first creation was my Barbecue Chicken Pizza Rollups. A fun combo of store-bought pizza dough, shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, cheese and seasonings all baked together until bubbly. That one targeted all our pizza fans.

Today we are showcasing salad in a unique way – one with tender, juicy barbecue chicken, drizzled with an easy honey barbecue vinaigrette.

A bottle of Cookies bbq sauce sitting next to a plate of bbq chicken chopped salad.

For this recipe, we decided to coat the chicken tenders in their Flavor Enhancer prior to cooking, then brush them with Cookies Sweet Hickory barbecue sauce before plating. This sauce has a splash of pineapple juice with hints of cayenne pepper to create a thick, sweet and zesty barbecue sauce.

One of my favorites personally!

Cookies Flavor Enhancer seasoning is something I always try to keep in my pantry. We use it on proteins, roasted potatoes in the oven, grilled vegetables and so much more. It’s the perfect blend of salt, pepper, chili powder and garlic.

A plate of bbq chicken chopped salad on a white dinner plate.

The chicken in this salad cooks up quickly in the air fryer (or you are welcome to grill it) and can easily be prepped ahead. The rest of the salad is all fresh or canned produce – chopped romaine, cherry tomatoes, black beans, corn, fresh chives and sharp cheddar cheese.

And have I mentioned the homemade vinaigrette?

Such a fun one – in a jar you combine Cookies Sweet Hickory barbecue sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, avocado oil and spices. This one serving of dressing goes a long way over the salad and easily feeds two people.

Who is ready to try this one?

I promise you it’s a salad you will want on repeat all Summer long! After you make it please tag myself (@sweetsavoryeats) and Cookies (@cookiesbbqsauce) and we will be sure to share your photos.

Now, let’s dig in!

Mexican Corn Dip 11 Jun 9:00 PM (4 months ago)

This easy warm weather dip is great for parties!
Mexican Corn Dip is creamy, a little spicy and sweet all in one.

A collage of Mexican corn dip photos, in a blue bowl topped with green onions.

I had two teenagers come home from morning workouts + sports practices with this dip waiting in the fridge and you would have thought they won the lottery. Granted, they were STARVING. They probably would have eaten stale bread off the floor.

But, I instantly knew when they grabbed the Fritos bag and dug in we had a winner.

Oh my heavens, this is a really good dip!

Ingredients for Mexican corn dip sitting in a glass bowl and on a wooden cutting board.

This Mexican Corn Dip has a creamy sweetness from the corn, mayo and sour cream, but also has a bit of heat from the jalapeno and peppers + tons of flavor from the sliced green onion, garlic powder and cheese.

Everything comes together perfectly.

This one bowl recipe can be whipped together in 5 minutes, then you simply let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. All of those brilliant flavors come together and get even better.

A hand holding a Frito chip with Mexican Corn Dip on it.

Look at that yummy bite!

I've made so many dips over my 15 + year food blogging journey. Many of them make it to the top of the charts each year.

Here are a list of the top dips from ME over the years...

Layered BLT Dip
Million Dollar Boat Dip
Dried Beef and Green Onion Bagel Dip
Hot Reuben Dip
Fried Pickle Dip
Slow Cooker Beef & Bean Dip
Baked Seafood Dip
Tomato & Olive Taco Dip

A side view of Mexican Corn Dip in a blue bowel with Fritos chips.

Bring this one to your next Summer get together (or winter, all times of the year are good!) and watch it disappear. Great for pool parties, book club, girl's night and so much more!

And can I just say - Fritos Scoop chips are superior in this one! Just so darn good.

A collage of Mexican Corn Dip photos.

Make this fun and easy appetizer and tag me (@sweetsavoryeats)!

I'd love to share photos of you and your family and friends devouring it.

Iced Vanilla Cinnamon Latte 4 Jun 9:00 PM (4 months ago)

It’s Summer! Nothing beats an iced coffee, sweetened just right to make anyone’s day.

My new Iced Vanilla Cinnamon Latte will be your new go-to for the hot Summer months.

This post is sponsored by AE Dairy, but all opinions are my own.

AE Dairy whole milk bottle sitting next to a glass mason jar of an iced vanilla latte

If you are an iced coffee drinker, then today is for you! Or if you’ve been wanting to save some dollars and make your own at home, read on. Iced coffee really is simple to make once you’ve figured out the best ratios.

You can enjoy them all Summer long!

This month, AE Dairy and I wanted to showcase their whole milk – and what better way than in iced coffee?

A glass mason jar on a wooden cutting sitting next to a bottle of AE Dairy whole milk.

AE Dairy’s whole milk is delightfully creamy, just hours fresh from Iowa farms. I can attest how great it is and so can my kids (my teen boy drank this whole quart in one sitting). Whole milk is also on trend as of late as one cup has 8 grams of protein, with just 150 calories.

And better yet, its creamy texture pairs perfectly with coffee!

Whole milk and coffee have always gone hand in hand, whether iced or hot – and in this new recipe it’s no different.

Gold coffee spoons next to a latte in a glass jar by a bottle of AE Dairy whole milk.

The best iced coffee (in my opinion) has an equal amount of good, strong coffee to nice, frothy milk. In this case about 1 cup of coffee and ¾ cup of AE Dairy’s whole milk.

And yes, frothing is key! This way the milk thickens even more and gives you that foamy texture that everyone loves. You can find a very simple and inexpensive milk frother most anywhere – here is a great option. If you want to spend a little more money, you can get a frother & steamer combined – here is a great option.

Aside from the milk and coffee in this recipe – you also add a little sweet vanilla syrup and cinnamon. That’s how I like mine!

A bottle of AE Dairy whole milk next to an iced latter.

So grab yourself a big mason jar, glass mug or tumbler and put this iced coffee recipe on your daily rotation!

Be sure to tag myself (@sweetsavoryeats) and AE Dairy (@aedairy) so we can see your photos. I’ll be sure to share them as they come in.

Cheers!

Teriyaki Chicken Egg Roll Bowls 28 May 9:00 PM (4 months ago)

Love an egg roll, but don't have the time to make them?
These Teriyaki Chicken Egg Roll Bowls are quick and flavorful.

Egg roll filling on a while dinner plate, and in a skillet for serving.

I have been serving my family some version of egg rolls bowls for years. Of course we all love a good, traditional egg roll when visiting a Chinese restaurant, I even have an awesome recipe for my homemade version, but honestly they take a bit of time and prep and we don't always have that!

I'll often make the filling with ground pork, even ground beef, but this time I wanted to make it a bit more special and jazz it up with chicken - a teriyaki version!

A skillet of cooked chicken with a wooden spoon.

I cut up and sliced the chicken nice and thin (just like Chinese restaurants do) to make it feel like takeout. That also allows the chicken the cook up really quick - this truly is a fast dinner!

And for the veggies all you need to grab from the store is a big bag of shredded coleslaw mix. One that is already prepared with different kinds of cabbage and shredded carrots. Again, since it is all shredded so thin, it cooks up incredibly fast.

This whole dinner cooks up in about 20 minutes!

A skillet of teriyaki chicken egg roll mixture, with a wooden spatula.

The added flavor of teriyaki sauce, fresh garlic, plus a little sweet and sour sauce really gives this dish a ton of flavor, while still keeping it fairly healthy.

We like to serve it alongside white rice, but we've also been known to just eat it straight out of the skillet before it even reaches a plate.

It's that good!

Teriyaki chicken egg roll serving on a white dinner plate with a fork sitting next to a skillet of the egg roll mixture.

Can you add any veggies you have on hand needing to get used up in this dish? Absolutely!

Anything that sautés up quick works - broccoli, snap peas, sliced peppers - really anything works. You are welcome to add in whatever your family enjoys. I usually keep it simple with the cabbage mix as that is what my family loves, but feel free to get creative.

A collage of teriyaki chicken egg roll bowl photos - on a dinner plate and in a skillet.

So who is ready to make this quick dinner?

Not only is it healthy and filling, but it's an easy dinner idea to keep in your back pocket when schedules get crazy and you are short on time.

Be sure to tag me (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll be sure to share your photos.

Peanut Butter Cup Blondies 21 May 9:00 PM (5 months ago)

Talk about a decadent sweet treat!
These Peanut Butter Cup Blondies are rich, sweet, salty and full of peanut butter goodness.

A collage of peanut butter cup blondies, with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

I'm going to age myself here, but I first unveiled these Peanut Butter Cup Blondies back in October of 2011. You guys that was well over 10 years ago! This food blog of mine certainly has grown over the years.

With SO many recipes under my belt, from time to time I have to go back (need to go back) and update these old recipes. The photos get extremely dated and you all deserve better!

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, peanut butter chips and chocolate chips on a wooden cutting board next to a mixer.

So naturally I made these again after YEARS of forgetting about them and you reap the rewards of that today!

Peanut butter and I have a long history. I love anything with peanut butter in it. Here are a few desserts from over the years that showcase it's peanut greatness.

No Bake Peanut Butter Cup Pie
Peanut Butter Mini M&M Cookies
Crockpot Peanut Butter Fudge Cake
Peanut Butter Magic Bars
Brookie Bars
Apple Peanut Butter Cookies

A tray of peanut butter cup blondies in a white baking dish, cut into squares.

The tops of these bars are buttery and crackled, sprinkled with flaky sea salt and the middle is gooey and filled with milk chocolate and peanut butter. This recipe makes a thick bar in a 9x13 pan - perfect for a hungry family or a small crowd!

Eat them slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you'll have something even better.

A collage of peanut butter cup blondie bars in a white baking dish.

Have a glass of milk? Might want to grab it now!

These dreamy bars are sweet and swoon worthy. Get ready to have printed off copies of the recipe at hand if you share them with others (share, say what?)!

Please tag me (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll share your photos as well.

Coconut Dream Bars 14 May 9:00 PM (5 months ago)

We absolutely adore anything coconut in our house.
My new Coconut Dream Bars are sweet, chewy and have a deep brown sugar
and coconut flavor.

A hand holding a slice of a coconut dream bar, with more cut & sitting on a wooden cutting board.

For years and years my family has loved my Mom's Coconut Cake. My kids request that she make it for birthdays and holidays. If you love coconut and have a special occasion you really need to check it out.

Since we are such big coconut fans, I decided to "dream" up another dessert for them (because let's be honest, we don't always have time for a big cake production). So enter these delicious bars!

A white baking dish with a baked crust, sitting next to a pile of shredded coconut flakes.

With a simple brown sugar shortbread-like crust and a creamy, custard-like coconut filling...this two layered dessert is easy to make.

They are buttery (sorry, don't count the calories on this one!) and full of sweet coconut flavor. Every one of my kids said they were a hit and then instantly said, "when are you making them again"?

Haha! I gave a few bars to a friend and stashed a couple in the freezer (you know, to save for a rainy treat) and then we ate the rest.

A hand holding a square of a coconut dream bar with extra slices in the background.

Look at all that flakey greatness!

These cut up beautifully and are such a fun dessert for Spring and Summer. Perfect for a bridal or baby shower, a Memorial Day picnic or your mid-Summer 4th of July party. They hold up well and can be kept at room temperature or in the fridge for a cold treat.

Orange Sesame Chicken 7 May 9:00 PM (5 months ago)

Easy and delicious takeout at home? Yes!

Try my new Orange Sesame Chicken on your family soon.

This post is sponsored by AE Dairy, but all opinions are my own.

Orange Sesame Chicken ingredients on a wooden cutting board & plated over white rice.

If my kids had their way, they’d love to go out to eat for Chinese food on a weekly basis. It’s one of their favorites! But alas, money doesn’t grow on trees, nor do we have the time with three busy kids in a zillion activities, so I decided to tackle their Chinese cravings at home.

In my continuing partnership with AE Dairy, I’m very excited to share this month’s new recipe. We both realized upon brainstorming some recipe ideas that I had never featured their tasty orange juice!

How did we let that happen?

We both wanted to showcase their orange juice in a savory dish, something you might not expect as a main ingredient. One of the most popular Chinese dishes on most menus is orange chicken…and probably coming in second place is sesame chicken.

So naturally I combined both for my new Orange Sesame Chicken!

This dinner can be eaten over traditional white rice, in lettuce wraps, with stir fry veggies or just right out of the skillet like I was doing last week.

A skillet of orange sesame chicken next to a bowl of white rice and a carton of AE Dairy orange juice.

AE Dairy’s orange juice is 100% juice made with a variety of oranges, including sweet Valencia oranges that give their juice a premium taste. They do not add any preservatives or sugar, you get nothing but pure, deliciously vibrant orange flavor.

I can attest it’s beyond good (I have one child who is PICKY about their orange juice), so trust me when I say she knocks back glasses of this stuff.

And now I’m showing you another way to use it today, besides just a breakfast drink.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are cubed, seasoned with fresh orange zest, soy sauce, egg white, salt and pepper and tossed lightly in cornstarch before a quick pan fry until cooked through and crispy.

Meanwhile, you get to whisk up a fun pan sauce of AE Dairy orange juice, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, chicken broth and rice vinegar. That gets poured into the pan until it’s all thick and syrupy.

And to make this sesame – right before serving you sauté sesame seeds lightly in a pan until brown and toasty – sprinkling them on top before eating.

It’s both ORANGE and SESAME!

This recipe makes a nice, big batch (perfect for my always hungry family) and reheats beautifully as leftovers.

And you can feel good about eating it – fresh flavors and healthy ingredients make it a filling and guilt free dinner.

PLUS, there will be orange juice left over to guzzle down in the morning!

Who is excited to try this one?

Grilled Chicken Caesar Sliders 30 Apr 9:00 PM (5 months ago)

If you love grilled chicken, Caesar salads and sandwiches, then this recipe is for you!
My new Grilled Chicken Caesar Sliders are fun and easy.

A hand holding a chicken caesar slider and a wooden cutting board with all of the sandwich toppings.

Feeding my family has become a full time job. If you have kids (especially ravenous teenagers) you know exactly what I am referring to.

For example my 15 year old had a full breakfast this morning (two eggs, bacon, two pancakes) and then shortly before leaving for school scarfed down a plate of leftovers from dinner the night before.

Sigh.

And that was all eaten before 8 a.m.! Later it tends to follow that same route. Full plate at dinner, then more before bed. They are growing and sleeping like it is their job.

So naturally I was not surprised when my kids ate this dinner early and then again later when I served them. But with big compliments each time!

A glass bowl of bbq rubbed chicken tenders, with bacon sitting on a wooden cutting bowl.

We've finally hit grilling season here in the Midwest, so I wanted to make a fun sandwich with juicy barbecue rubbed grilled chicken (and bacon!) as it's a protein filled staple in our house. If you don't have a grill (or don't want to drag it out) this chicken can also be cooked in the air fryer. Both work great.

And since my family loves Caesar salad I decided to combine the two favorites!

The smoky chicken and the cool, creamy Caesar dressing, plus the salty bacon....it's a delicious combo on these sliders.

Chopped slider ingredients on a wooden cutting board next to a chopping knife.

If your kids love getting in the kitchen with you, then the final steps of this brilliant slider will be fun for them!

Grab a large cutting board and throw ALL of the ingredients onto the board (yes, all of them - including the dressing) and start chopping away. You'll want everything to be in small bite sized pieces. It will resemble a nice chopped salad that your order in restaurants.

Once chopped up it's just a matter of serving a heaping helping on your favorite slider bun and serving. These are great to make small batches of if it's just a few of you or you can make the full batch if feeding a crowd.

For those that don't want it as a sandwich? It also makes a great salad!

And if you've never made your own salad dressing, don't fret. It's incredibly easy and this Caesar dressing of mine is a shortcut version. You simply throw everything in a bowl and mix it up.

Ways to change up this recipe...

1. Change the dressing to any variety! Ranch, Thousand Island, Italian, whichever is your favorite.
2. Serve on sub rolls, pretzel buns or eat as a salad.
3. Add any additional veggies you enjoy. Banana peppers, dill pickles, black olives....all would be fun!

I cannot wait to see you eating these sliders! Please tag me at (@sweetsavoryeats) and I'll be sure to share your photos.

15 Ground Turkey Dinner Recipes 23 Apr 9:00 PM (6 months ago)

If you enjoy cooking with ground turkey, please read on!
Here are 15 ground turkey dinner recipes that are easy to make and taste delicious.

15 Ground Turkey Dinner Recipes

I will fully admit that I rarely, if ever as of late, cook with ground turkey. Saying this I know many of you do! It's a great source of lean protein and honestly I feel like it's making a bit of a comeback.

When home with family this past weekend sitting around the dinner table the topic of "favorite meals from your Mom" came up. My niece immediately said that her Mom's turkey burgers were the best thing she makes.

I was shocked....a turkey burger?

But after she described it, it sounded delicious. This got me thinking about ground turkey and the requests I've gotten from readers over the years so I figured it was high time I round up my friend's favorite ground turkey recipes and share them with you.

Let's go!

Iowa Girl Eats - Orchard Turkey Burgers

Orchard Turkey Burgers - the trick to a great turkey burger is keeping them moist so they do not dry out. This one from my friend Kristin has grated green apple in them! And look at those caramelized onions. Yum.

Turkey Spaghetti - grab a 24 ounce of jarred marinara and this dinner is half done. It gets amped up with onions, garlic, additional seasonings and of course ground turkey!

Ground Turkey Black Bean Enchiladas - these taco flavored enchiladas get amped up with extra fiber with the addition of black beans. A great dish for an easy weeknight dinner.

Turkey Stuffed Peppers - just like the traditional stuffed pepper recipe with tomato sauce, but this one used ground turkey. I'm guessing not a soul will notice!

Make the Best of Everything - Turkey Taco Pasta

Instant Pot Turkey Taco Pasta - cooking pasta dishes in the Instant Pot is actually very easy! Give this one a try. All of your favorite taco flavors in this ground turkey and egg noodle dish.

Korean Style Ground Turkey - this recipe is fun as you can eat it in a variety of ways. Just cook up the meat and eat over rice, in lettuce wraps, over sweet potatoes or in tacos.

Hearty Ground Turkey Soup - during the colder months, nothing is better than a warm soup and this one easily mimics a stew with onions, carrots, celery and potatoes.

Ground Turkey Teriyaki Stir Fry - nothing beats saving money and making your own takeout at home. This stir fry is hearty and filling, yet has touches of sweetness with brown sugar and honey.

The Lemon Bowl - Turkey Bolognese Zucchini Pasta

Turkey Bolognese Zucchini Pasta - I love, love, love a hearty Bolognese sauce rich in tomatoes and veggies. This version adds ground turkey AND spiralized zucchini noodles for a super healthy dinner idea.

High Protein Ground Turkey Stuffed Sweet Potatoes - there is a new trend showcasing loaded sweet potatoes, this version has garlic, spinach, many seasonings and gets topped with cheese.

Asian Glazed Meatballs - all the flavors of traditional Asian food - hoisin sauce, garlic, sesame oil, honey, rice vinegar and ginger - come together in a delicious, saucy meatball. Serve over rice!

Turkey Stuffed Shells - my kids love any stuffed pasta shell! This easy dinner is for Italian lovers. Traditional meat, ricotta, seasonings and tomato sauce are the stars of the show.

The Gingered Whisk - Thai Turkey Zucchini Meatballs

Thai Turkey Zucchini Meatballs - these meatballs are loaded with Thai flavors, red curry paste, fresh ginger, coconut milk, fish sauce, fresh basil and more. The sauce is creamy with a hint of spice!

Mediterranean Turkey Meatloaves - if you love feta cheese, kalamata olives, red onion and hummus then this new, fun style of meatloaf is for you!

Taco Zucchini Boats - in the Summer I love a good stuffed zucchini boat. It's a great way to use up garden produce. This taco version is fun!

Which ground turkey dinner recipe are you going to try first?

I'm eyeing the Instant Pot Taco Turkey Noodles and the Asian Glazed Meatballs. But honestly, every single one of them sound stinking delicious.
